Cabelas Lacey , WA
« on: December 26, 2012, 04:01:14 PM »
Went today and was really disappointed in them. First off they had almost none of the stuff they stock online on the shelf there and then when i asked for a tree seat the guy in the tree stand area had no idea what i was talking about. Then i went on to see if they had some earth scent spray and the guy there didnt know they made it in earth scent.

Funny thing is i went home and logged into Amazon.com and got all the stuff i needed for the final hunting weekend and spent about 50.00 less than i would have at Cabelas. Just sayin.

Yeah I do not care much for cableas anymore. It seems like they are always over priced, service is poor and most the people don't know what the heck they are talking about. I got some gift cards that will probably be on the classifieds soon :chuckle: :chuckle:

Could it be that they just got hit with the Christmas shopping season and have not had a chance to restock everything yet? New outfitter?  Just sayin...

:yeah:  it is after all the day after christmas and it was a battle ground in the Yakima store when i was there 3 times over the last week.  I thought the sea of orange during hunting season was bad...... :yike:  that had nothing on cabelas this past saturday. I do like the fact that they keep the store stocked with hot female employees that attempt to know what they're talking about. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:  Hopefully, the wife doesn't read this. :bdid: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I don't buy much at the store.  On-line shopping is the way to go (cabelas and elsewhere).  Plus, cabelas will ship for free to the store so you can buy the online sales and pick it up for free.

I like to spend a couple of hours in there from time to time to get ideas of what I want and use the Redlaser app on my phone to scan barcodes and instantly find out where it is cheaper online and, most of the time, buy it from an online source while standing inside of Cabelas.

How dare a store be out of stock one day after Christmas!!! I usually plan my purchases so they do not conflict with these types of sales periods.

Love Cabelas.

yep i did. got one for 38.00 that was 60.00 on cabelas. Gorilla Steel tree seat. 54.99 to be exact on Cabelas site and 38.00 on Amazon.

i dont hold it against them for having empty shelves , most of them were pretty full in fact. they just didnt have anything i wanted from the website at the store is my grumble.

I agree, very clueless staff, the only one I talked to that knew anything was one of the archery guys.  This was last weekend, maybe they hire for the holidays cause its so busy and its not as fishing/hunting oriented types?

I applied earlier this year at cabelas and I was going to be making 9.50 an hour.  I live about 20-30 min from there,  I don't think it would've been worth it. So I took a job closer to home at a little less an hour.

At the Lacey store?
Never had much luck with the archery staff at the Lacey store. Even worse luck with there resident "know it all" ml guy.

I haven't been down there during any of this Christmas season, but I've been there many times in the past. If the service has become that bad, I would write it off to being part time seasonal staff. When I went there before, I found most of the staff very knowledgeable and helpful. I think a lot of retailers have this problem during the holiday seasons.
Yea, the prices may be a premium, but they have to cover the losses due to their generous return policy and marketing costs. It's hard for any "brick and mortar" retailer to compete on price with a strictly online retailer. Each has their niche, and comparing them like they were equals is really not fair.

There are many seasonal employees that are hired for the holidays. You cannot train all of them in a very short time. When you check out, on your receipt is a survey where you can rate your experience. That is they only way to let them know how your visit was. Airing them on a public forum will accomplish nothing.

They are the big box store of sporting goods. If you don't know what you want and have a good idea of where it might be located in the store you are out of luck. The last time I was in the Lacey store I was looking for Warne scope rings. I couldn't find what I wanted so I went to the optics counter and asked where they would be located. The guy gave me that dull bovine stare and said, " I don't know much about scopes." On the same trip I was wanting a pound of A2520 powder, which you have to ask for there. No joke, the clerk said, "we don't stock that caliber of rifle." I guess when you pay peanuts you tend to get monkeys.

Sorry you had a bad time. I've worked some retail and got a couple reasons for you, if it helps.  :)

 1) "Didn't have on the shelf what they had online."  -- That is actually standard practice for most retailers. They offer a larger selection online than what they do in their stores. What they choose to put in their stores is anybody's guess, but is probably related to what sells regularly and what isn't taking up too much space for the profit the item brings in. In general, it's safest to think of the online store as a completely separate entity/store, not a representation of what a brick and mortar location carries. (For me, I generally call into a store if I'm looking for an item I found online.) The prices online are also cheaper because the store items had to be shipped to the store and that raises the price. Now, you'll pay shipping to your house and the "discount" online is supposed to help with that.

 2) "Employee didn't know anything." -- It's the day after Christmas. There are a couple people working right now: Those who don't celebrate Christmas, seasonal help, and those who are too low on the totem pole to get this time of year off. Given the demographics of the average hunter, you're probably dealing with number 2 or 3. Basically...you got the new guy. Not his fault, not yours, just that time of year.

Just some info anyway. Glad you were able to find what you were looking for online! :D
