Walked a gated road about 3 miles out and back, lots of poo and a few tracks - but no bear.  Started driving up the grade to the next spot and a medium sized bear sprinted out in front of my truck.  Almost ran over him.  He went back the way he came, down into some very steep new reprod.  I carefully slid down into it and found a bunch of torn up stumps and other sign so I'll be back.

In a short evening hunt I saw 24 deer and one hunter. No bear and no fresh sign.

I've seen over 20 in the last month scouting and I would have had a shot at one yesterday with a rifle at 400 yards but I'm hunting with a pistol this year so there was no 400 yard shooting to be done. I decided shooting 5 bears pretty easy over the last 5 years just isn't as much fun as having to get really close to smack one with a .41 mag! Could have killed around a 250 pounder this morning but I've seen quite a few goin over 350 so I'll hold out for them

Saw 100 head of elk (2 rag horn bulls, about 85 cows, and a handful of young'uns) and 1 guy in his truck behind a closed gate.  Still scratching my head at that one.  Just a plain jane truck, no special markings, plates, or tabs.

Pushed timber in an area near forks yesterday. I have seen a bunch of bears in there this summer. No bears but had 4 cows and 2 calf elk walk within 10 yards before they realized I didn't belong. Hitting one of my favorite cuts this evening after work.

Went out early this morning. No bear, but saw a bunch of turkey vultures and 2 coyotes. Hit one and missed one (my first time shooting a yote). My cams have 3-4 bears in the area, but not a whole lot of new sign from them. Berries in my area aren't ripe yet, but they should be soon.

Itching to get out and no sitter so I loaded up my son and found a lot of clear cuts.  Just no bear.  I think my son will get the hang of it in no time.

I know its still early in the season but I haven't seen any fresh sign at all, going to hit a different spot this coming weekend.Black Berries  are getn closer to being ripe in my first couple spots but I have always seen atleast sign in both spots. Well....went for a walk with bknilvr00 yesterday. We covered some ground and heard the occasion ruckus that probably wasn't a bear but was good enough to get our interest. Didn't see a lot of fresh sign...some old scat that was probably bear, some fresh scat that was yote. It looked like in the open areas some of the blackberrys were getting ripe which could be promising in the next few weeks. We are heading back out this evening for a hunt in a different area. I'm going to hang a cam for kicks and giggles.

Went for an afternoon stroll with h20hunter after work yesterday. We didn't see or hear any bears. We did however scare up a ton of grouse and I found a toilet in a stump. Find of the century I tell ya! Also learned a valuable lesson. If you offer up bug spray, be sure to use it yourself after its handed back. Don't be a dumbie and put it back in the truck. While we were sitting watching a clearcut, h20 was enjoying the scenery, and playing on his phone while I was engaged in a battle of wits and karate chops against mosquitos. Id like to say I won, but I'd hate to be called a liar....

I have yet to see a bear this season but still awesome to be out.  I've taken some cool cell phone pics so far this season.
