I didn't know there were elk in Pennsylvania. Is this on a ranch?

No, there are Rocky Mountain elk in PA, VA, MO MN WI, MI - all over the east and Midwest now. Most are programs run by RMEF in conjunction with local Fish & Game departments.

Thanks. I know it doesn't help to go on the attack, but these people need to know why they get to see these critters in the first place.

I'm originally from PA and they have a decent Elk herd in North Central PA. PA Game commission grants a limited amount of permits each year to hunt them.

I'm not sure about the current year, but last year around 48 elk permits were issued. In the years past there was an early season and a late season. From my understanding, the early season was cancelled (due to a very low success rate), but the late season continued with very good success. Believe it or not, these elk are of record book class! The best part is that when you are hunting them...you can actually see them through the woods. Nothing like the West side here in Wa. I have a pic of one that was taken a couple years ago by my friend Randy (rest in peace buddy). I'll post it later.
