2015 Grouse Poll #1
« on: June 14, 2015, 03:15:09 PM »
Okay boyz n girlz....it's almost summer so let's start thinking about fall.
Actually, grouse hunting begins in late summer...SEPTEMBER 1...(it's on a Tuesday, which sucks, unless you are retired or, like me, can take the day off!  :IBCOOL:)
So, what's your favorite fool hen fowl?

Break out the shotgun, clean it, talk to it, tell it what you've been up to since you put it away for the season.   :chuckle:

There's nothing better than blue grouse hunting, I just love the country they live in.

Remember everyone, the limit this year is only three of one kind, and then you can get one more of another species.

I haven't looked at the regs for grouse yet but will before the season. Are you saying out of your daily limit only 3 can be of the same species? Limit still 5?

I like them all...even spruce.

Seemed like an easy question until I had to put one in print. Growing up in PA, ruffs were it. My earliest hunting memories are tagging along with my father and grandfather small game hunting. To this day, nothing excites me as much as a ruff exploding out of a deadfall. I still go back east just to hunt them. Then again, I've hunt Blue grouse in the rockies and cascades and they're what I'll be chasing opening day, no doubt. Like Bobcat said, you can't beat where they live. In the end, though, I'll probably spend more time chasing Chukars...

Love the ruffs but they like to escape into some nasty brush. Probably not a biggie if you have a dog though. But I really like to get up on the ridges after them blues. Not a big fan of the mild heart attack when you flush em up real close and unexpected.

I like the Blues, growing up we would hunt them after school on our motorcycles. I still go up and kill a couple birds a year from an area I have been hunting since I was 14.

Blue grouse are a blast to hunt.  You can hunt them with or without a dog in fairly open high country.  And a lot more meat on them than ruffed grouse.

Ruffed grouse are fun too, but the *censored*s almost always will flush with brush in between you and them. :bash:
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.
