Where do people find blacktail sheds?  Clearcuts?  Reprod?  Randomly?

In my neck of the woods it was usually in older growth bedding areas adjacent to feed.

I have found them in all those places and even right in the middle of logging roads...

So in other words it is safe to say, anywhere that a blacktail walks..has walked, or will walk!!

The biggest blacktail shed I've found was in a spot I wouldn't ever go on purpose... :chuckle: but that's the kind of place big blacktail bucks hang.

My son found one in our pasture once, nice little three point. Thought it was a stick he wanted to throw at the cows.  :chuckle:

Normally i find all mine in big timber. You need to go slow and learn to look down and know more than 25 yards out. Some of my biggest sheds i've walked past more than once because i was going to fast in a area that i knew held sheds.
Although i found a nice matched set checking traps with my son last week that were on the road that was just cleared in a thick tangled jungle.

The only times I've found them without pure luck have been in areas that had persistent snow. Any patches that stay free of snow are likely spots to find sheds.

I found a dandy BT shed this weekend just out of pure luck as it was laying on the trail in front of me.  Best advise I can offer is look down once in a while.   :chuckle:

Theres to much ground to aimlessly roam so you need to break it down and hit the high % spots, for me it's the bedding areas and the edges of habitat change.

They can be anywhere. My brother and I found ten yesterday.
Reprod- 2
Big Timber- 4
Clear cut- 4
This was all in about a 1/4 square mile. This is an area we hunt regularly so we do know where the deer are at different times of year. Best advice I can give is find fresh sign and look there.
