Before you all get to worked up ,i got my road kill permit for that.

I think you're blowing smoke because I'm pretty sure  they don't think that give roadkill permits for winter kill. My guess is you just realized that you made a mistake and you're not wanting to fess up to it. Come on, just tell us all that screwed up and you're sorry for making a mistake. :chuckle:

I'm just busting your chops. I think the law is stupid, especially when it is clearly an animal that died some time ago. It would be different if there is still fresh flesh on the skull, but I think a skull like the one you found should be free for the taking when it clearly died several months ago. :twocents:

Not today,we where driveing dirt road 7:00 am , and we come around the corner big Tom all strutted (big blue head)up right in the middle of road .private on both sides road .But about 20 feet up road is public turkeys where go off the road heading right towards public ground.so we drive up road a little ways find a place to park and circle around to cut these turkeys off on public ground .Calling ,walking don't hear or see anything.no gobbles nothing walk around for about an hour and half get back to the truck drive by where we seen Turkey Tom all struted up in the guys yard where we first seen em.Them turkeys must of crossed back over acrossed the road after we went up road and parked.

So we went to another public land area walked a bit, drove around a bit seen no turkeys.we where leaving not a quarter mile from state land on private land three Jake's cross road right in front of us,son begging me to shoot one,so explained about private property.I shut the truck off and watch and called at them from like five feet from them no gobbles back.

Long story short we went to about 6-7 different spots and called and did not hear a turkey one .So it kinda turned into a spot em and shoot em kinda deal so where gonna go back out in mourning see if there's anything moving or gobbling.
You should knock on some doors w the kids :dunno:

just out of curiosity, why were you still in the truck at 7am. I also drive and gun turkey Hunt, but that is usually in mid day. I'll drive around and pull over and make some calls. But you have got to be in the woods at least untill 8 am minimum. Those turkeys are moving and loud.  Very easy to miss one of you're in the car.

No luck for us this morning.  We had a couple roosted, but they went the other way after flydown.  Only heard a couple of random gobbles after flydown. A little bit of hen talk.  We decided to bag the afternoon hunt since she was wore out.  Of course we saw a couple along the highway on the way home.  Glad to see someone connected.

We hunted hard for two days but couldn't find any birds that would work for us this year. Heard a few gobbles and had great camping weather. This morning we called in a bobcat and a coyote to about 5 yards. That made for a little excitement.

Did my first mentor hunt for youth and had a ball.  Found two birds that worked like a champ.  Hunter's first turkey was a double on two nice toms.

After an early start and some long-distance gobbles, we moved around the bit and found this.
Then this.
In between, a persitent gobble materialized into a nice tom, we called to about 40yds but no shot.
Pretty amazing 45 minutes.
