Got an OIL permit long before I'm due.....
« on: June 16, 2017, 02:59:09 PM »
I was trying to come up with some wisecrackin' way to make this post but this is serious bidness, so I just can't do it.
Since yesterday morning I've been on pins and needles feeling like I was going to puke my guts out with anxiety. I opened up my WDFW login and hit the temporary backdoor about 15 times and saw that I wasn't holding any new licenses. That was that new backdoor method that worked for a few minutes. Well I watched a bunch of folks posting on here that they had a license showing for elk or deer or whatever and started to feel like I didn't draw anything. I clicked it one last time and all of a sudden realized that I was in fact holding a new license. Read what it said, decided it couldn't be true, and went back to work with a little bit of the butterflies in my gut. Call it butterflies, call it nausea, call it what you want. A little while later I saw that the special hunts tab had showed up on the WDFW website. Well...it's now or never. I logged back in, went to special hunts and about crapped myself. Couldn't believe what I was seeing.  I drew a permit. A permit I never in a million years expected to draw. Looks like I'll be going mountain goat hunting in the Goat Rocks Wilderness this fall. I still can't believe it. I can't imagine a more quintessential western backpack mountain hunting experience than a mountain goat hunt. And to be doing it in Washington, relatively close to home in an area like the Goat Rocks... I'm beyond amazed at what is coming my way this fall. I've hunted pretty much my whole life. I grew up back east in the Catskill Mountains in upstate NY. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect I'd be mountain goat hunting. I've let the cat out of the bag a little with a few friends and have received more offers to help than I can count already and for that I'll be forever grateful. I'm hoping for an amazing adventure, good times with friends and family and hopefully a nice billy to top off the memories that will be made this fall that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
Before you guys gang tackle me, I will say that I'm totally thrilled to finally draw an OIL permit but with 9 points, I feel like I drew long before I should have. I feel bad for you guys who have been applying twice as long or more than I have.

Congrats!  I am happy for you.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Super happy for you.  Can't wait to hear all the details.

Oh and by the way, @Timberstalker , the fireworks pic I posted the other day was multi-purpose.

I think I'll be opting for something a little heavier.

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm not gonna lie. This whole thing is a little overwhelming.
