Are crawdads in most all lakes, rivers and ponds to some degree? Just have to find what they like and where they are?
I would'nt say all lakes and streams but there in a lot of them.. I have found them to be in places i would have never thought...   In creeks its good to find semi deep spot with a log jams, "deep being a few feet" and having decent bait helps too, but pretty much anything oily or greesy will work..   And really you just got to kind of test the waters you cradad in.. its important to have a good bait container so the crawdads go in the pot to eat the bait and not eat it from the outside.. And really 2-4 hours is the best time for a soak cause they will escape the trap once there full.. IMO.. trial and error like anything else..
Their going down!!!

Didn't catch a whole lot so I had to make them stretch. Made some crawfish and shrimp etouffee.
Took all the tail meat out and used the shells to make the stock.
I don't pay for protein.

Been to Pearrygin Lake twice this year - three of us dropping traps both times and only 3 crayfish. Last time we spotted a pair of otters, so I guess they are cleaning the lake out. Has anybody had any luck up there this year?  Had one guy at the lake that he has had a pot soaking for 3 days and didn't get a single cray. Guess it's time to try other lakes.

When this lake has an algae bloom {hot summers make this worse} it eats up all the oxygen and the crawdads go dormant like in the winter.  They are still there but not doing much other than hibernating in their holes.

Otters can have an impact but they have been visiting this lake long before man's brain could comprehend such a notion.

Fall crawdading can be great and with just over a month left there is plenty of time to try other waters, keep at it Gearhead.

Okay got the prizes figured out a bit late but here they are.

Biggest Hog Craw will receive a new propane cooker and some Montucy Coldsnacks to help wash down a big boil.  If you are close I will deliver if not they will be shipped.
@scottcrb

The best boil will receive a nice package of boil accessories.

Only a few entries this year, so let’s get out there see what’s lurking in the depths of the abyss.  Shrimper has the largest so far but Euro mount has the next largest and is in line to receive the cooker and beer if it holds up.

Thanks Shrimper - If I have time before the end of the season, I'm gonna hike in to my honeyhole and load up. Pearrygin will have to wait till next year.
