How does that 18" Brownells barrel shoot with factory ammo? Let's say the Hornady 123gr A-Max or SST?
It loves those 123G amax, sub MOA, to point I am the problem more than rifle.  The barrel was ~$300 with a matched/headspaced bolt.  Not a total cheapy, but not a mosquito shooter like you like.  I picked it up after reading pretty positive reviews form 65grendel.com and that it was a good bang for the buck barrel.

Trying to work up my own load now to duplicate the factory Amax.
123G Amax Factory ammo chrono (sorry didn't get humidity those days):
75*f, 29.94inHg   Avg   2561fps
40*f, 30.2inHG,    Avg   2444

Here's a load that will get you close. You can tune it from there. It has shot well in my Grendel's/.264 LBC's. This was a group shot prone from a bipod with a rear bag out in the sagebrush.

I like the powder because it shoots well in my .223/5.56's also.👍 Shots 10-14 on a new BH 18" SPR BBL. This barrel I didn't break in, I cleaned it when I got it. Shot 9 rounds, cleaned it. Then shot the five shots bellow.

I think the Grendel has the edge past 300.

I assembled a 6.8 using a 20" ARP barrel and it shoots the 110 grain accubonds very well. Or should I say my wife shoots it very well.

This is last years deer with a 6.5 Grendel under 200yds one shot. Shooting the village bicycle.

130 accubond

The village bicycle you say? :chuckle:

Sounds like that rifle needs a trip to the clinic.😷 :chuckle:

Maybe the little CZ should just become the official HuntWa rifle. We'll just pass it around all hunting season to see how many critters it can rack up in one year.

I've run AR Grendel's from 16" inch to 26" inch. Really like 18" inch SPR contours for a all around well handling accurate barrel. There wasn't enough speed increase from 18" to 26" on the AR to justify the weight of a AR with a 26" barrel.

26" full bull contour. Heavy!

That looks like a gun I own now...?

At the end of my first 100 days I'll ban all 30-06, 308, 7 Rem mags, and 223s.

The country will end up looking like Denmark, but with a lot more guns and midget strippers.

Just curious, why the 20" rule for the Grendel?

I think I was thinking this as max length.  Thanks for all the great input everyone.

They'll get back to you in about 82 more days.....

I haven't held one yet but every other Howa I've held was pretty nice. I'm partial to the little CZ 527 just because it's a control feed action.

Any thoughts on uppers from Zeroed In Armory? Could get this with BCG for $385 in Grendel.  Also, any negatives to either keymod handguard or the quad rail?

yes, quad rail is fat and uncomfortable and becoming obsolete. Keymod (or M-lok) lets you just add things where you need them, for a slimmer handguard everywhere else.

I've got a 24" BHW barrel. My gun is a heavy one and it shoots tight groups. I also use the Amax 123gr. The SSTs don't perform as well for me and I don't know why.  :dunno:

I used the cheap 18" AR Stoner Barrel (made by Satern) and it shoots very well with that ammo.

I have a 16" Grendel, I did all that research a number of years ago, and went with the grendel as it definitely seems to be the better round.  Im going to re barrel to an 18", I hope I dont regret it, right now I can walk around holding the pistol grip and it wont touch the ground, makes carrying it pretty easy!  Deer Ive shot with it never complained.  :chuckle:

Initially I bought a few boxes just to have brass and see what shot good, but Yes, 100% reload now. I have not calculated it out in a long time so I cant tell you. But its almost always cheaper than box stuff.

I use XBR8208 at 28grains and nosler 120grn bullets

I have a Howa Mini 6.5 Grendel barreled action(20" HB) sitting on the bed right now and the stock should be here today(Boyds light weight Varmint),  dies, loaded ammo and bullets arrive the 25th.  Hopefully I can ruin a couple coyotes days this winter.  Anyone have a bullet for the Grendle that might be fur friendly,  I'm starting out with 90gr TNT's, as I shoot them in my 6.5x58R Sauer although  they are sized to .260 and moving slower than the Grendlel.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska
