Discount tire online sales? Plus a couple brand questions
« on: July 28, 2017, 03:04:31 PM »
Well didn't think about buying tires online until I was told the tires I wanted today would run 2100 plus tax and etc.

So checked out discount tire. Seems like some great prices. Have you used them? I would love feedback.

Also a couple brands I have never run. I was hoping for some feedback on them.

Cooper and Falken. Both there a/t 3 designs. Both have 50k plus warrentys on them.

I would for sure buy the replacement plan they offer, if I bought them.

Thanks for any feedback.

I run the Cooper AT3 on my truck and am very happy with them. I have a Chev 2500hd.
My boss runs the same exact 10 ply tire on his 1/2 ton and gets 70k a set out of them.

Cooper for my 1500. Have about 50k on them the past year and will hit 65-70 most likely.

Ive just bought a set of 5 Falken Wildpeak ATW3 in 35X12.50s.  They have a 55,000 warranty.  Should arrive in a few days. I have heard good things about them so I thought I would put them on the kids Jeep and see how they hold out.  I am partial to BF Goodrich AT tires.  But those I will put on my truck.

Been dealing with Disscount for alot of years. Always good service. Put the Cooper AT on the suburban. Not sure how many miles on them but wearing good. Bought for 50,000 mile warranty as well. They have sales usually on the big three day weekends of the year.

Cooper tire is an American company that makes lots of private label tires for names like Les Schwab and Big O for certain sizes. FALKEN is a Sumitomo Brand based out of Japan.

I don't have personal experience with either tire.

Tires are application specific for best performance. It's always difficult to make a good comment with no info.
Tire size rig what the use of the rig etc are all important information.

Prices seem to vary wildly depending on the size. I've seen mounted sets of tires on wheels of a more common size for the same price as just the Rubber for an 18" wheel pickup tire. Your stock spare tire is often the most affordable size your rig will fit.

Tires require service if you order them online. Either you have to mount them yourself, which can be expensive if you screw up with the TPMS gear most new rigs have, or take them some place. And most tire shops will send you packing  if you show up with online bought tires. Free flat repairs ,rotations and such are paid for though new tire sales so don't expect someone to take care of the competitors tires.

You could have them mounted up at a used tire shop or one of the online preferred installers, but I don't know anyone who has done that.

Sweet thanks all. That's the kind of info I am looking for. Looking like I will grab the coopers from all the great feedback from you guys.

special T  that is indeed my case. I can buy a new set of 17" wheels and tires for way less then just buying the tires to fit the blasted 20" wheels that are on this bighorn edition dodge.

If I grab a set of 17" wheels new from schwabs they will mount them up any tires that I bring in to go onto the new wheel is my understanding. Plus all the guys in here get killer gun deals so they don't want to send me packing :chuckle: No more gun deals :chuckle:

Check walmart (unless you don't like walmart) but I price compared locally and on-line and they were cheaper by a couple hundred bucks (yes, evendors compared to discount tire). I was comparing the cooper stt pros size 170/70-17.

Im buying tires from tirebuyer.com this week, free shipping to their installers, Firestone is one of their installers, they have the cheapest rates I can find after installation.

Im trying to decide on the St Maxx by Cooper and the falken wildpeak At3.

Both are right about 1000$ for 4 in a 295/70r18, or equivalent size.

I did take a look they were pretty close just a little more at walmart.

Looks like they have one of the sets of wheels I was looking at to. So if I am reading things right they will mount and balance for free. If I buy wheels and tires at the same time and ship to my house for free.

Ford dealer beat their price for me so I bought a set of 17" KMOs for my dog truck last fall. $180 each, E rated. Bought the KM2's for $190 ea for my F-350. Mount balance free and had an oil change for $100 at same time.

Evergreen Ford happy Gilmore?

They had pretty decent prices on tires when I bought my truck, but didn't have any on hand, and I didn't want to spend the night waiting for them to get em. I sure won't be paying scwabs pricing for their supposed customer service lol

I printed out good onlone prices on some quality cooper and took it to discount who matched the price.
I would recommend both cooper tires and Discount.

There is one down in Vancouver. I have to return the wifes lease in a few weeks so I am going to give them a call and see if they can have them there and all ready to put on for me. The fuel wheels I want are special order so not sure how long that will take. So going to get the skinny but for sure looking like I will give them a shot.

There is the store "Discount Tire" over here on the west side and it's super popular. Good service, good prices, etc. Then there is an online retailer called discount tire online or something like that and they are not one in the same. Just FYI there. As far as the tires themselves go, you've gotten lots of good advice. Discount Tire does not do alignments which is always recommended when you purchase new tires. Also understand that a 50k mile warranty only means the tires are warranted against defect for 50k miles. Normal wear is not a defect. Bulges in sidewall is not a manufacturers defect. Tires are hardly ever replaced under a warranty. Road hazard warranty is probably something worth having. That will cover a lot more.

Ford has a low price guarantee on tires. If it's a tire we sell, bring us a printed estimate from somewhere else and we'll beat it. There should never be any question about this at any ford dealer. Ford reimburses the difference to the dealer. You have to be comparing apples to apples. That's the only thing.

Yeah I use Discount tire here locally for all my rigs now.  They are good about matching pricing too usually.  There is a discounttiredirect.com that is associated with them and another Co that is not.

What I do is look around and find online store that has tires I want at the best price and print out the pricing, I put them in cart and get the to my door price.  If you go to discount with just the tire price and no shipping they will push back (as expected) countering about installation, shipping ,etc.  Print out the online warranty too.  Then just go in and say you are interested in buying a set and hoping they can do something/match the price.  Last full set for my STSV they matched the price for the tires for me and they cut $ of lifetime warranties in half to match the online warranty.  I was out the door for $<900 for Continental DW with lifetime warranties, mounted balanced and out the door.  They did similar for the KO2's I put on back of the suburban last year.

When on there site I clicked there link for there installers and they give a list of the places. Just to make sure I would show up at the right one. Yeah defect is my biggest thought on the 50k warranty. The extra coverage you can buy for there warranty says it will cover road hazards and etc. It does say you may have to ship the tire in for inspection if they require it.

Dealers can be pushed around too. I've been using evergreen ford to buy parts since 1999. They've been bought etc but, they know my account. Now evergreen is Chevy and ford and I own two chevys and a ford. Which are old. They want to sell me two new trucks which I need. I get a good ass kissing but, they also have great employees which I now know and like. That means something to me. They understand that so, at this point they have a chance at some business which is probably two new trucks in the next year or two.

Had a set of Falken tires on my 1990 Toyota, got tgem at Discount tire, nice tires. Then my kid wrecked that truck, so I never did get to see how they wear after a few years. I put The new BFG KO2 on my truck and the wife's 4runner. They are really nice. I got both sets at 4 Wheel parts, 1600 out the door, that was mount, balance, and a warranty, and I won a Warn winch in a drawing while we were there getting them installed!! I've ran the BFGs on a couple different rigs over the years, and never had a flat or any other issues.

There are many threads on this

Dicounttireonline is the online arm of Discount Tire brick and mortar.

Wait until Labor Day and there will be sick rebates and free shipping deals , plus no sales tax.

Discount Tire store will install for $19 each.

Been doing this for years.

Tax savings alone can be $100.

Evergreen Ford happy Gilmore?

They had pretty decent prices on tires when I bought my truck, but didn't have any on hand, and I didn't want to spend the night waiting for them to get em. I sure won't be paying scwabs pricing for their supposed customer service lol

I called them, told them what I wanted and they had them in two days.

Pretty much any ford dealer should be able to have whatever tires they sell overnight. There are tire depots everywhere. 3 on the west side alone.

That's all worth a lot to the dealers too. A good service/parts dept should really value repeat customers like you. Customer Retention should be their #1 goal which is the big reason for the low price guarantee. We don't hardly make any money on tires in the first place. The reason we push them/discount them/otherwise bend over backwards is because we don't want you going to Schwan's where they're going to get your wheels off the truck and tell you you need shocks and brakes and struts and calipers and all that.

The only gripe i have about Discount is that they charge a guy for tire pressure sensor overhaul kits when they replace tires. Not really sure what that is.

Seeing more and more Nitto's. They're made by the same company that makes Toyo's I've heard.

I wonder how they can get away with not charging sales tax?

There is a www.discountiredirect.com that is the online version of Discount Tire. Not sure how they don't charge sales tax. I just put some tires in my cart just to try it out and sure enough, no sales tax.

Ford dealer beat their price for me so I bought a set of 17" KMOs for my dog truck last fall. $180 each, E rated. Bought the KM2's for $190 ea for my F-350. Mount balance free and had an oil change for $100 at same time.

I purchase my tires from Titus WIll, the wife gets hers @ Discount Tire.  I always end up w/a better deal than she does because I watch my money better than she does and I have a great service advisor @ Titus Will who I have been with for over fifteen years.  BUT, Discount is a great outfit too.  My dad was the co-founder of a little Montana company Tire-Rama http://billingsgazette.com/business/montana-s-tire-king/article_7cc40fdd-02b3-56d4-ab30-90e53d33c3d8.html, he has nothing but good to say about Discount.

And that is an old article, Tire-Rama has expanded beyond Montana.  Quite a ways beyond Montana.

Not sure if you made your decision yet, but I used discount tire directs for my last set of tires.  Ended up getting the Falken Wild Peak at3w's on my half ton GMC.  They were awesome!  The tire was redesigned a couple years ago so it was hard to find any solid reviews on them, but I did find a few that sounded promising so I rolled the dice.  I got four 285x70x17 mounted and balanced on 4 new wheels for right around $1200 after a couple rebates.  I sold that truck this year so I only put about 20k miles on them but they had barely any wear on them. I'm sure I could have got 50 k pretty easy.  They were awesome in the woods. During the late archery on the east side I was pushing snow with my bumper and had no problem. they did good on packed snow and Ice. For a AT tire they are pretty aggressive especially on the side wall. The only place they lack is in heavy mud, they just dont clean out like a MT would, but probably do way better than most AT's would do. They had a real quiet ride going down the highway which I prefer over MT's.  I recently bought a 3/4 ton that came with toyo mt's. I'm going to roll with the toyos until they wear out and as soon as they do I'm getting another set of the Falkens.

Two old chevys?   I knew you were withholding information in some of the other truck threads.

What's that? That the F-350 has been used way harder than two chevy's and hasn't had all the problems of the two Chevy's?? hahalol.

I have used Discount Tire for all my tire needs for the last 15 years. I am running the Cooper STT Pros on my Tundra now, but ran the Cooper A/T on my 2004 Silverado.

The brick and mortar store will honor the DiscountTireDirect.com price of it is lower.

One thing to keep in mind on their replacement ceriificate is that it will replace the one tire, so if all your orther tires are low on tread, you still have to buy the other three, assuming you don't want to run different diameters on your 4WD. So, I'm not sure it makes sense to buy all 4 certificates. I never have.

Buying my last truck from evergreen was pretty smooth, I'm from tri cities, and was driving home that night, only reason I didn't buy tires from em too.

Robert cann was my salesman, pretty laid back guy, probably buy my next rig from him too.

we put Cooper AT3's on my wife explorer a number of years ago, and they only made them in load range D at that time to fit that rim and tire size.  I have been very happy with them.  about to buy another set in the next few months.  It is our primary ski rig and 30-40 days per year over some snowy/icy roads, we have done very well.

Picked up a set of fallen wild peak at3/w in 305/65r18 for 860$ today through tirebuyer.com. I really wanted the Cooper St Maxx this time, but they were almost 100$ a tire more expensive and didn't come with a warrannty. Never ran anything besides Toyo or Cooper's, hopefully I like the falkens!

Ordered my tires from tirebuyer at 1230 yesterday, they were delivered to the store at 245 today. Just over 26 hours is pretty impressive.

It's an o ring rebild kit... think it's 3 o rings and a battery.... depending on the kit.
