I wouldn't get a pellet gun. The decent ones are expensive and still weak compared to a 22.

Just keep a junk arrow with a cheap broadhead handy and bait them in an area with soft dirt.

A good dog will solve all your problems possibly.  Shotgun works too. :chuckle:

Purchased a box of the Colibri powderless 500 fps or so and as Stein pointed out there were concerns over the bullet exiting the barrel of a long gun.

A well used 20 year old Ruger 10/22 with 10 rounds of Colibri, no issues exiting the barrel.  You do have to self cycle.  The sound level is like crushing a soda can.

Ineffective on squirrel at 20 and 30 yards therefore it is not going to be a raccoon solution here.

Highly inaccurate.

No squirrels were harmed in this test and good for them as so far I have found them harmless in the yard.  I bet a few are a little sore about now however.

It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.

You can live trap year round if the raccoons are killing livestock. trap them and take them somewhere and let them loose or shoot them
That's my one shot.

It is illegal to move them from the property while alive.  It is also a jackwagon thing to do to the people in the area where they are moved to.

Funny, they don't seem to care about my dog (even has a doggy door), in fact, they seem to mere interested in her empty food dish than the chickens.

Ever seen a dog after a fight with a pack of raccoons? It ain't purty and you can lose a good dog. Those raccoon packs normally will stand their ground when caught in the act of depredation. I lost a great hunting dog that way that decided to take on a raccoon when I wasn't around to stop it. What a dog! Survived two porcupine fights and a skunk before the raccoon hurt him so badly that he had to be put down. Don't ever sic your dog on a raccoon and don't forget that raccoons are sometimes infected with rabies.
