Opening day luck?
« on: October 14, 2017, 02:07:46 PM »
So how ya do?? 22 deg when I left home this morning and had to break a little ice around the edge. Set up 6 ducks and 4 geese. Saw a couple of flocks of geese but nothing that really gave us more then a glance but the ducks gave us some chances. Just me and Chase and the boy done good. Ended up with 4 mallards and a green wing teal. but the drakes had very little color and were hard to pick out till after the swung around and I had the sun to my back. Had 2 drakes the hen and the teal when I knocked down the 2nd hen and decided to unload my gun and called it a good day before I messed up and maybe shot another hen. 5 Ducks for the day was just fine.

Much better than I did.  Saw 1 duck right at legal light, didn't even fire at it as I couldn't tell what it was and it was hauling ass.  Had 1 goose come into my dekes, then flew away minus some feathers.  3 shots of Winchester 3" #3 at about 15 yards, and only managed to kill feathers.  Time to change it up, lol.

Looks like you had a good day!

Got 4 , white wing scoter , surf scoter and 2 golden eyes. Partner shot 3, Drake mallard, bufflehead, and a white wing scoter.

Those two "goldeneye" sure look like scaup, which doesn't open until Nov.

Being retired now, I can go everyday if I wish.
Sure glad our season runs into Jan.   :IBCOOL:

Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

Had a solid opener, had a 4 man limit by noon on Saturday, Sunday took some work but ended up with 23! Lots of puddle ducks early this year!

Question of the day bowhunter... do you know what kind of duck that is? Might want to review the regs.

Struck out on the opener, ended up in an area without ducks but tons of snows and even several good flights of Canadas.  The Canadas didn't want anything to do with our area and I didn't pack any snow socks.

Had a good opener with the 5 ducks then Sunday only got one then Tuesday never saw anything to even make me pick up the 870. Kind of wish I could go today if it were open pretty nice out but guess I'
ll just wait and try tomorrow.
