BBD. Norway pass
« on: October 19, 2017, 10:33:51 PM »
Just got out. Crazy weather, extremely remote.  Hardest hunt of my life.  8 miles in the Backcountry.  Thank God for a willing brother and a good friend.

Congrats and I know how much work to get it out it took so you are going to need some r&r. I have one question:Is that a Mountain Goat in the background in that first picture?

That's definitely a goat up there. And a great bull too. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Way to go, great bull!  And I agree that has got to be one of the coolest success photos with the goat in the background.  Please post up a story on how the hunt and experience was.  From what I know of that tag, it is a really unique tag and experience and would love to hear yours.

Here's a live shot of your bull from last month. At first I thought "no way did I see the same bull", but the eyeguard spacing looks identical to me.

So we hiked in and set up camp the night before my opener.  Opening morning we got up and hiked up to the top and started glassing.  I spotted him around 8 o'clock.  He was over a mile away as the crow flys.  My brother put his spotting scope on him and after looking at him we decided to go try to get him.  At this point it was beautiful out blue sky.  By the time we got within shooting range the fog and rain had set in and we couldn't see him.  We put our rain great on and I decided we would wait till 2 o'clock to see if the fog lifts.  At about noon I was so cold I told the 2 guys with me I was going to hike up the ridge we were on and look for other elk.  At 1 o'clock I spotted another herd with a decent 5 pt in the herd.  I called my hunting partners on the radio and told them to get up here.  By the time they got to me we made a plan to go get the smaller bull.  My brother was going to stay behind and guide us in.  We took off after the smaller bull and didn't get 30 yrds from my brother and he whistled at us and said he could see the big bull.  So we turned around and ranged him at 496 yrds.  I dialed my scope to 500 and held about 3 ft for wind drift and missed my first shot.  Second shot found it's mark. The bull ran out into the cliffs and stood there.  He was between 2 cliffs and had no where to go.  I shot 2 more times missing, had to reload and on my second shot after reloading I dumped him.  It took a hr to get to him from where I shot.  And yes that Mt goat hung out there the whole time we butchered that elk.  We boned him out took 3 packs out to camp got back to camp at dark.  Wet and cold we went to bed.  The next morning I went back in for the horns and the last of the meat.  We definitely pegged the fun meeter on this hunt.  Definitely the hardest hunt I've ever done.  But well worth it.
