Elk in north part of 530?
« on: February 19, 2018, 02:20:34 PM »
Hi all,

I'm just curious if anyone knows how far the "good" (ie reasonably hunt-able) population of elk extends in GMU 530. Are there any animals in the northern portions of that unit, or are they mostly all down south in the Weyerhauser land?

Thanks in advance.

Reupping this, I'm still curious about the rough distribution of animals in this GMU. Thanks for any insights.

46°11'09.8"N 122°19'36.3"W

NF-8117 before Kalama horse camp. We have chased elk from the 81 road all the way to the top. Tend to stay near the Toutle border. Haven't been up there in two years since we started buying Weyerhaeuser permits. That was always archery season, never rifle hunted there but it's a start.

It is depressing. A big cow elk was so sick the coyotes were starting to eat on her before she was dead. My neighbor found her dead in his barn where she went to get away from the coyotes. I found another down and being fed on and she couldn't get up and get away. She was put out of her misery.
Sad.
