On purpose or by accident?

I looked right past a blacktail spike in the timber and stalked in real close, didn't know he was there. Must have been bedded down next to a large fir tree. I kept creeping into the woods and he stood up about 10 feet from me. Scared the crap out of both of us. Neck shot (was aiming for the head) and grab your skinning knife...

A couple of years ago I watched a herd of elk step into a red twig dogwood patch to feed, and I snuck down into the bushes with them and shot a big cow as she stepped around the bushes at 5 yards or less with my bow using my fingers since the release was back at camp. TALK ABOUT A RUSH!!!

Close enough for archery gear. M-Ray took the first pic while I was getting close, the second pic is what I got when he stood.

I have had deer on several occasions feed on the branches that I had just cut out of the tree that I was sitting in less than a couple of feet below me.  My first ever archery kill was a blacktail buck at under 3 feet.  It was in a driving rain storm and I used an old growth fir to block me as I snuck up to it.  He closed the final 10 feet right up to the tree where I literally could have stabbed him with an arrow.  When I shot the arrow went through him and into the ground on the other side.  Only four or five inches of the arrow was sticking out of the ground.

I realize this closed last month but thought I'd throw in here.

Called this "largest of the deer family" to less than 10 yards, got nervous as we weren't taking him and had a bit of trouble encouraging him to leave.  Left us a bit excited but he did walk off after we stood up and made some loud noise. YIKES

Out of season, years ago. I was doing the PCT from Stevens to Snoqualmie. I made camp in a large draw just below Cathedral Rock. Just about at treeline. The timber gave way to a huge meadow up stream. After diner I took a walk along the creek in knee deep grass. About 30 yards into the clearing I spotted a doe laying next to a tree chewing her diner just on the other side of the creek (about 2 feet wide). I moved slow and spoke real soft to her. She let me get within about 15-20 feet and started to stand up. I backed up a step and sat down, so did she. After a few minutes I stood up and took a step towards her, she got up. I sat down, she sat down. We played that game a bit. Finally I got an idea and started to stare at her and yawn, over and over till she started yawning..  chuckle

The next morning sipping my coffee I heard a noise and turned to see 2 does with 2 fawns browsing not more than 40 feet away.  I started packing a camera after that Bash

When I was crossing the border into Canada, they asked if I had any firearms with me. I said, "Well, what do you need?"

The other day when I was walking through the woods, I saw a rabbit standing in front of a candle making shadows of people on a tree.

I'm not sure how many deer I have actually layed my hand on.  For sport I used to sneak up on them and touch them and go BOO and watch them climb out of their skin.  I've matured a bit.  Course I've jumped over a log and landed on a bear too but thats a different story.  I climbed out of my skin on that one.

I want to hear the story about you jumping on a bear  Wink
