My first 'yote - finally!!
« on: April 20, 2012, 11:08:39 PM »
Well, after countless hours in the deserts of Arizona and now in the woods of Western WA - I finally got my first one, out near Granite Falls. Everybody meet Sebastian the Coyote. Yes, I named him!!

Called in with a foxpro spitfire "coy pup distress"

Jack the Ripper's name was Sebastian!  What could be cooler for a coyote name than that?

You probably foiled their ambush plan.  Coyotes will lure a dog away by making him think there's a loner, and easy pickings, and once away the whole pack jumps the dog and kills him.  A guy I used to know had his big German Shepard chase a lone coyote over a hill, then it sounded like a big dogfight was going on.  The dog came straggling back later, all torn up, and never went after a coyote again.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

Nice job, they get easier and easier, the first is the tuff one.  Where in AZ were you hunting, spent a few weeks done there this past winter.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I lived in Chandler and tried a few different spots within a couple hour radius. I took numerous trips to the Florence/Queen Valley area with no success. Also "sycamore creek/four peaks" area on the bee-line hwy. I think anything that is within an hour of PHX has been hunted so heavely over the years that it is tough to call anything in. I also spent time up in the Prescott area and saw a few up there, never connected on a shot though.

Seemed like there were quite a few SE of Florence in the BLM land there.  Heard quite a few around the camp grounds (Rancho Senora) and had them answering my howler, don't know if you can shoot there .  Called in a few NE of Bullhead City while we were camping there.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Very cool, good job! That dog does have some nice colors. I get alot of coyotes in the Granite Falls area, I keep a calling and they keep a coming!  :dunno:  :chuckle: It was a male? I've only had females come into pup distress. Then again, I've only even called in females. The only male I shot was one me & predatorpro spotted on a hillside.

Nice coyote! Ive been trying to get my first one. I have to exact vengance after a coyote ripped my dog up while I was deployed to Afghanistan. My brother had to shoot my dog because the Yote had ripped him open. Cant wait to get one and tan his hide :-)

At that point I would have had the dog put down. If I had a gun during the incident I would have put the dog down. Some may not agree but it is the way I was raised and taught.
