I think donating to Youth Hunters Ed is fitting.  Especially if it helps to prevent more of this kinda thing from happening.

How about letting the family decide. They  may not really be interested in encouraging kids to learn to hunt right now.

I guess I don't see it as encouraging kids to hunt.  Most of the kids that sign up for the classes already have some kinda desire to hunt.  The class just showes them how to do it safely.

Though I still think the money going to the family would be my first vote.  Smiley

I'm in.

What is the Youth Hunter Program? If you mean the Hunter Safety Course, it is funded by the WDFW and the money would not directly benefit youth. The instructors are volunteers and receive nothing for the time. I think the trail associated donation would be more appropriate if the family agreed; it should be their choice.

Count me in as well.

How about contacting whoever is in charge of the trail systems and possibly nameing the trailhead in her name, maybe with some sort of rock monument and her picture. Two cents worth

Anybody over around Arlington, where the family is? Somebody needs to be entrusted with the collection here, so we can get it rolling.

I have made inquiries with news agencies and law enforcement officials as to how we can get this rolling and contact information.  No responses yet.

I have recieved feedback from Komo News and the Seattle Times on doing a story about our memorial fund and possible help in setting this up for the family.
I have not granted an interview as of yet, and will need to talk with Ray prior to bringing the Media services too deep into all of this.
I have expressed to them that it is important to us that we show the community our collective thoughts and feelings regarding this tragedy that could easly have been avoided.  I am leary of dealing with them, as we have seen many times how the press can skew things and make it ugly, but at the same time, I think it could be a help in generating public awareness that we do not condone such acts or see them as commonplace.

What are your thoughts? How would you like me to proceed?  This started becasue I ws searching for a way to get a contact for the family and a way to get funds delivered to them.  I was not trying to draw too much attention to our actions, but thought it might help to get the word out and since no one has stepped up to run this, I thought I could try to find a way to get it rolling to start at least.

I would be a bit leary of the mainstream media as far as including the website as a promoter or sponsor of the fundraising.  If they are worth their salt they will research the website prior to giving any positive publicity.  I believe all or most of the "only good injun is a dead injun" type posts have been removed.  But there are probably plenty in the archives that refer to them as liberal media or something they may find worse in their minds.  Definitely a lot of democrat bashing,  a bunch of "if that guy stole my elk or whatever he would eat a bullet" type posts.

The media scares me I guess.

I would think hunting/fishing publications,  something in the form of a bulletin or poster at sporting goods stores, sportmens, cabelas, joes, etc...  may get the word out and enough in donations that the mainstream or larger  media would have a harder time putting any negative spin on it.   Just my thoughts,  or paranoia maybe

I agree with you 100%, that is my concern as well.
I have made contact attempts with hunting publications as well as coporate offices with Cabela's, Sportsmans Warehouse, and tried Joe's as well, but it returned undeliverable.

Maybe granparichard can work the Joe's side of things?

This is why I want to get Ray involved, since this is his baby.  I would hate for anything negative to come of this since we are trying to do the right thing.

I think the best way to proceed would be to say that we are a group of hunters, who came together to show our support in this tough situation. I think we should concentrate more on the fact that we are hunters, not that we belong to hunt wa.com, as to avoid any sort of issue.

But that is my 2 cents.
