1st bird of the season. Been so busy, missed the opener, but got out for a while yesterday.
Great pics of the dove hunts, guys. Saw a couple doves here on the west side while driving to my grouse spot. They were on private land of course.
Lets see more grouse pics!

Grouse opener and upland opener...

First couple of grouse with the 20ga I picked up late last year. I was out scouting for deer so I didn't have my dog with me. She was pretty excited about them when I got home though!

here they are

My first wild rooster :) pathetic how hard it's been for me to get the first.
-
Few new shots
-
Got out sunday with the dog and after some early morning spazziness, he calmed down and starting working. He put up 6 birds (4 hens and 2 roosters). One rooster was when he was being a spaz so i didn't even shoot and we got the second rooster. He also put up a covey of quail that I got two out of and found the 2 ducks that fell in the thick stuff and were running. So it ended up being a good day
-
Took a day of yesterday and chased some birds. Ended up putting up 10 birds and we got all 4 roosters that were flushed. Here's a pic of one REALLY tired dog after we got home.
-
It's been a long time coming for me to catch up with one of these guys! My dog Porter was the real hero though! He did an awesome job!

Took the sisters pup out for his first hunt. This little guy got his first rooster on his first hunt! A little timid in the beginning, but he warmed up to it and later couldnt resist those feathers! Good day for him, all tuckered out and ready for round 2. (was a wild rooster)
Hunted east side, 11/15.

My son and I last Sunday...Sharpies at plus 5 degrees..
How do ya tell a sharptail from a hen pheasant in the field?
-
I find they fly slower and often make a "clucking" sound.
-
As Forks stated the "Clucking" noise they make is a dead give away, they also have a white underbelly. When hunting with us you learn to ID them quite fast, if you accidentally shoot a hen it cost a steak dinner for everyone that is with us for the day.. :bdid:..
Yesterday we were into covey's of over 100 birds. This cold weather is really consolidating them..
-
Are the coveys holding somewhat tight?
-
Forks
The Sharpies are holding tighter now then they were in September. Where we hunt (just south of Havre) it has been below freezing for the past few weeks. We are finding them at tops of draws that lead into wheat fields. The majority of them when flushed are just flying 100 yards or so to the next draw to be worked again. They are not blowing out and going for miles like we see earlier in the year. This will be our last weekend hunting them our season ends the 15th. Packing up and heading back to WA. next week. It's been a great season, have been over here since the middle of September..We will have to meet up I'm just a 1/2 hour so of Olympia when in WA.

Snuck out for an hour before work. Love hunting the snow! My 4 year old loves helping clean the birds, even in her skirt :)

Nice looking dogs, I forget what they are called. When I get another bird dog that's what I want. Do you breed them?

Some more huns from yesterday...

Montana this year

They've appeared other places in this forum and other forums, but these have also appeared in magazine articles.
If you'd like to get a photo in a magazine, look at the composition of these images. There's a human, birds IN HAND and a gun. Always have birds in hand. With a dog, kneel with the dog, keep birds in hand, cradle shotgun in elbow,
SMILE! (We're telegraphing that this is fun. We're having a good time. It's enjoyable and exciting.)
Good luck, good shooting and drive careful.
:hello:
