Title: Potholes Bowfishing Tournament April 25, 26
Post by: Stickers on April 13, 2015, 10:11:09 AM
The Washington Bowfishing Association is having our first tournament of the year, sponsored by CAMP CHEF. It's a "Big 10" shoot (biggest 10 fish weighed). We are excited to see everyone again! We'll shoot Saturday, come in for dinner and raffle, then shoot again Sunday. If you have never participated in one of these events is a great time. Our group is more about good times and telling stories than, "I'm the best".

Additional information can be found at "washingtonbowfishing.com"

See you all very soon!!!

PM Returned (site was down for a day) Hope to see you there.

Tons of fish to be shot, dinner with good guys, $3000 in raffle prizes, and if it's anything like last year's turnout (45 boats) we'll be paying out the winner with some serious CASH!!!

It's all about good times!!!!!

About 30 years ago Sun Basin Archers used to put on a carp derby and I would just find shore access and wade the shore line and shoot carp , no boat needed . Flash forward  , would I need a boat or could a guy still wade the shallows ?

It's a boat tourney now. It allows everyone access to the same water.

We were up there yesterday and the fish action was HOT!!! If you found water that was 65 degrees and higher fish were in full spawn. I imagine that with the spawn in effect that someone will find 10 fish over 15 pounds. That's a pretty big feat for Potholes. There's always a ton of fish but they're usually 8-10 lbs.

I would like to come over and see this.  :chuckle:   Where is it going to be held ?  You can PM me if need to
Maybe I'll take one or two of them off of your hands for crab and mudbug trapping

I would like to get in on the gig, I have a bow, but I haven't shot it in years and I'm pretty sure I'm out of practice.

That would explain why we saw so many boats with bows :)

We were camped at the state park up the channel from the boat launch with the Boy Scouts. Could not catch a fish to save my life wind was blowing so hard had to duck into a canal and beach fish for the rest of the day. Only one Bass caught, but it was the kids first fish and first boat ride so all was good.

Curious now how many Carp were shot?

The Tournament went great! We had 35 teams that shot roughly 8000 lbs of fish. The results are on our website. Weather was a little rough on Saturday but Sunday was almost perfect. Top team shot 261lbs, in 20 fish. Generally we see potholes produces an 8lb average. So 13lb average by the winner was good. Big Fish Saturday was 20.4 and Sunday's was 26.2. Both Great Fish for the reservoir. 1st place took home $800. We paid out over $5500 for the weekend.
