Title: Silver Dollar Youth Hunt
Post by: ryanfam on March 31, 2017, 10:46:24 AM
My son drew a cow permit on the Silver Dollar. Tried to contact the ranch manager with no luck all season. WDFG did call back saying there might be a chance at getting my son's points back. This would not work as he is now 16 and no longer eligible for the youth hunts. The hunt ends on March 31st. Now the WDFG wants 10 dollars for not reporting even though the permit says you have up to 10 days after the end of the hunt. Trying to purchase my son's 2017 licenses without paying the 10. I have talked to three different people at WDFG that cannot get this done. I do not recommend this hunt.   :bdid:

:yike: Sorry you had a bad experience with that hunt.  I have heard mixed reviews on that hunt for sure.  The $10 late fee is just salt in the wound.  Frustrating for sure.  :bash:

My daughter had the blackrock ranch bull tag and never had a call to come hunt this year either. Huge fire pushed all the elk out and that was the end of elk hunting. Ranch manager was great to talk to but hard to bring elk back. Also will be talking to the state about this tag and points.  Pretty tough to draw the best youth tag for elk and not even get a chance.

I've put in for those hunts and they always seem like such great opportunity.  Its too bad I've heard these stories before.....

A couple years back my son drew the silver dollar tag too.  What a disaster!  Never called.  Lost his points. WDFW would not let  him have them back even though he never got to hunt at all.  I bet the silver dollar ranches still got their land owner bull permits!  Its supposed to be a trade off.  They get land owner permits that they can sell in exchange for a few youth permits.  Major disappointment.

I work out at Hanford and those elk are getting smarter and living full time on the reservation now.  At least most are.  The big bulls have found the heaven like terrain down by the old reactors down at the river and live there year around now except travel a little bit during the rut.

many years ago like maybe 7 my son drew this hunt and we went over and meet the lady land owner and hunter her land hard for 4 weekends,  she swore the elk were always just there the night before we arrived but never saw a fresh elk track or *censored*, think this is a total scam hunt.  she said she had sued the WDFW for elk damaging here crops as did many of her neighbors. when I asked what kind of crop do you grow out here in this desert landscape she replied wild flowers.....  :-X

for anyone thinking of putting in for this hunt in the future save your child's points for and put them in elsewhere not worth your time, gas, mileage..... :twocents:

You should not be penalized a $10 fee.

(a) Hunters must report hunting activity, for each tag and permit acquired, by January 31 or within 10 days after the close of an eligible hunt, whichever date is later.

Hate to here these kind of stories, especially with kids losing their points and not getting to hunt.  :(

My niece drew this tag and shot a dandy 6 point on the second day. Sounds like we must of been in the right place at the right time. Might have to rethink putting my daughter in for this hunt in the future.

My son drew the youth any elk tag in Siver Dollar for 2016/2017 season also. No opportunities for any of the hunters this year according to our contact at the ranch my son was assigned. Fire affected the elk in the Fall of last year and they never came back in Jan-March this year as they apparently have in the past.  7 points down the drain as he's now 16 also.  I called the 800 number for WDFW to report his hunt results on Friday and they got it recorded for us.
