My 35 year old son and I both drew Montana Combo tags, general season.
We will be booking a Drop Camp for late November (Rifle) northeast of Lincoln.
He's pretty fired up, and of course I am.
Hoping for elk, a decent buck would be gravy.

Late in November, the bucks should be rutting pretty hard, in my experience.

Later,
Rob.

My partner and I both got the big game combo. Can't wait for a week of archery elk in September and a week of mule deer in November.

From Montana:

License Drawing Update
There is little to offer except hang on for a bit.  The system collapsed and according to Hank Worsech, Bureau Chief of Licensing, they have been working on it to get it fixed.  Please be patient and in a few days, will have the drawing sorted out.

What we do know
•   Non-resident licenses were over subscribed for the first time since 2010
•   The process for drawing licenses imploded and is being worked on now
•   Once the drawing for licenses is squared away the Dept. will draw permits
•   There will be split off and refunded licenses available at some point
•   Split off and Refunds will be provided to those who applied but were not drawn in the first go around
•   IF there are licenses left over there will be an on-line first come first served basis. We will keep you informed of that opportunity in advance

I'm a little surprised that they sold out this year with all the winter kill off they are having. I figured more guys would just do ghost points this year. Real curious on how good you guys do and how big your animals are you all get. Still always a fun hunt ! Good luck to all !

Will be a few years before we see the effects of the hard winter. The mature bucks will still be around. last years fawn crop are the ones who took the fit. The numbers of bucks will reflect that in the upcoming years.
