Having never harvested a velvet buck can you preserve the velvet? How much do you think he paid for that buck?
-
Holy moly! What a beast, gotta agree with Bone, that buck hard horned would be a phenomenal sight! I love a velvet Typical though!
Congrats to the lucky hunter!
-
Decent buck.
:yike:

Looks like the one running around the ffth land east of ritzville...

The ritzville one is bigger.
-
Not to be a tease but mule deer foundation just posted the Arizona super raffle buck! Wide!
-
Wow, if you didn't know different it looks like a fence hunt.
I'm always amazed at how well they get them cleaned up and posed. I'm usually anxious to get the show on the road and end up working it over for 30 second with a blue shop towel, dragging it so the camera isn't pointing directly in the sun and firing off a few lame photos.
I guess if I had a guide and $$$ invested I would take a few minutes to do it right.
-
Wow what a beast
-
I'd shoot that on opening morning.
-
There's an amazing amount of bone there! :o
-
If he could keep the velvet on , I think it would be an awesome mount.
What am I saying, it is awesome, LOL
-
Great buck, what a trophy.

My first buck shot in 1999 was in full velvet in October. He had no balls and didn't ever rub. He still has all the velvet today. It should be easy to preserve
-
Why, if he had the governor tag, didn't he keep his posse on that thing till it was hard horned? It would be tough to pass for us normal hunters, but I don't think he just stumbled upon that opening day.

Dudes got some long arms.

Archery hunts started on the 10th; not to mention the multiple "governors" type tags in NV.

What's the stigma against shooting bucks in velvet?

What's the stigma against shooting bucks in velvet?
Personal preference. That's it.
-
Don't know about any stigma, but I greatly prefer bucks out of velvet. Just like I prefer ripe tomatoes over green ones.

My dad has an archery blacktail he shot in California in 1999 that was in velvet and still has its velvet.
-
Some prefer fuzz some don't.
Makes an already huge buck look even bigger that's for sure.
-
That buck will be stripped of his velvet then the taxidermist will put velvet back on.

Why? Seems like a lot of work
-
I've seen on caribu hunts they'll inject fymaldihyde.my spell check couldn't even figure that one out lol

Because to get it officially scored for Boone and Crockett they have to be hard horned.
