I know that there have been some negative feelings expressed on the forum in the past regarding buck run, and I will admit that I have in the past Probably spoken unfavorably of it. That being said, buck run and specifically Derrick Stevens did a really awesome thing for a young lady this past week. There is a young lady here in the Ephrata area that sadly has a severe form of bone cancer and barring divine intervention is probably not long for this world. Derrick was contacted by a mutual friend regarding this young lady and agreed to let her hunt free of charge. Furthermore, he asked the family if he could be their guide and made every effort to help her get one of the Nicest bucks on the place. My friend was part of the hunt, and told me that Derrick literally talked her out of shooting countless decent bucks because he wanted her to get one of the best Bucks on the farm. He then set up to have the taxidermy done for her and again at no charge to her family. Anyway, being that I have spoken critically of buck run in the past, I wanted to personally post this because It really changed my perspective! Derrick, you have earned my respect and gratitude as a result of this amazing act of kindness.

Awesome story, awesome buck too.

Great story and you are right if you are going to criticize you have to also give praise when it is due. Not always the easiest thing to do.
Thanks for sharing the good.

Props to Buckrun. That's a beautiful buck and an even more beautiful smile on that young lady's face. It's great this option was available for her.

She was headed to play soccer at Walla Walla. Just graduated from Ephrata this last year. I'm happy someone gave her something to smile about.

How did I miss this story, so damn sad to hear about this young beautiful lady. I just don't understand why kids get cancer, I know life isn't fair but that just isn't fair and should never happen to children or young adults. I'm so very sorry she is going through this, God bless her and those who are helping with this chance to forget about cancer at least while she's in the woods enjoying God's creations. Prayer sent, miracle request on the way! :'(

It's stories like these that put in perspective how small the world has become from social media. I first read about Jayda when my Wilson Creek friends shared her story on Facebook. This site told me about the Buckrun contributions, Instagram had a post from Eva Shockey, and the success photos are on here and facebook again. It is really amazing to me, both the good (like this story) and the bad, how how connected this world is in our ability to have so much information at our fingertips.

Thank you for this thread. I have followed her story through mutual friends on Facebook, talk about gut wrenching. So glad people are stepping up to let her experience wonderful opportunities.

I hope someone posts the moose she shot this weekend!!! I'd guess new state record!
