Shot him about 30 minutes into the season last Saturday. I heard a group of elk bugling and cow calling, snuck around a ridge and watched them walk across the hillside in front of me broadside at 200 yards. Cow called once and he stopped and turned broadside. Dropped him where he stood!

Nicely done  thanks for sharing

200 yards open sights. So cool, congratulations.
Still in velvet. Does it scrape off or was it still being fed by blood?

 That's a great eater bull.

damn nice shot.

Nice spike bull, and a great shot with open sights

Congats, good shootn.

Congrats :IBCOOL:

You're a better shot with open sites than I am. With me, 200 yds would be a prayer. I tried once, cross-canyon, but it quickly became apparent it was a futile endeavor. So I quit trying many years ago. Now I look for elk to be under 100 yds. But congratulations to you, you made it work. Nice spike!

Where'd you hit him?

It was just starting to be scraped off but was in relatively good shape.
Where'd you hit him?
Shot him in the neck

:yeah: this is the first full season I've worn vias. This stuff is freaking amazing! Not only is kuiu ridiculously comfortable but the vias in particular is great camo. There's been multiple times already where members of our group have been as close as 100 yards away on an open hillside and you literally aren't visable. I've also walked right up on deer up to like 20 yards that just stared my direction without being skittish at all... I'm a believer now!

So give it up, did you aim for the neck? I ask because a 200yds my front sight covers a pretty good size area at 200yd. What sights?
I know people (not me) can shoot a long way with open sights I just have my max about 150-165.

Yes at 200 yards its hard to see the target but that's why I aimed for,the neck. I followed the top of his back and held straight under the back of the head. You're right, at that distance it would be tough to aim for/see the vitals. Usually at that distance I drop about six inches but it only dropped about four, not sure if that was environmental or if I didn't hold quite right.
