What's wrong with the chili mac?  It's not my favorite but when I'm hungry it goes down no problem.

Nothing is technically wrong with it. Its just my least favorite and there are many others I would rather pack into the woods to enjoy for dinner.

Chili Mac is my fav.  I have some beef stew that I don’t care much for. Also a few others. This is a good idea I always get a few I don’t like.

I had no idea someone would actually want to get rid of MH Chili mac 'n beef. It's the greatest.
I learned something today.

So do we need to figure out a MH currency rate, like 2 beef stoganoff = 1 chili mac? What's a mac & cheese worth? I have a few beef stews laying around that I could part with...

Beef strog is worth just as much as a chili Mac.  :twocents:

Chili mac is horrible, MH or otherwise.  I have one that has been rolling around my hunting box longer than I have been a hunter.

I have to agree the BS is just as good as the chili mac, the beef stew is meh in my opinion.  Now the eggs, and bacon I cannot stomach anymore.

I love the chilli Mac......until the day after.  Comes out about the same consistency.

Chicken and dumplings is the best. Beef stroginauf is better than chili Mac. But I do like chili Mac.

No Chili Mac for me.  Chicken ala King gets my top vote.

I tried almost every flavor they have in a 2 week trip in Alaska.  I can eat the chili-mac no problem.  I will however never buy another mac-n-cheese.   By far the worst

MRE are so much better. I can't stand all the spices they put in the mtnhouse.  And it takes to much water for backpacking

My luxury item on a back packing trip will be a few of my Walla Walla sweets from the garden. I’ll pick a few of th small onions as they seem to fit in my food bag well. They will add some much needed freshness to any Mtn House meal. I’ll advise trying in any meal about the third day when the meals get blah...
enjoy

Well maybe a case or 5 might not be bad.

I am always hoping for new MH meals.  Eating so much of it eventually its all a grind.  I stray to Bacpackers Pantry occasionally however those are hit and miss with some options just not acceptable imo.

When I was in high school and college I didn’t have any money for mountain houses, lived on oats and dried cranberry’s with discount protein bars thrown in. I’ll never get tired of mountain houses now!

This looks like something to mix it up a little. Getting some of this to try this year.

Heather's Choice gets great reviews.  The meal options are a bit foreign to me but those who review them rave.

have you tried OMeals? they are what I've used the last 2 years. just a couple ounces of water and self heating like a MRE.

Aren't those MRE's heavy in comparison or am I just basing that off older style MRE's?

They’re much heavier than freeze dried meals.

It wouldn't be an every day thing for me either, but once in a while or maybe the cookies- they get excellent reviews. A week of mountain house=gross. A week of MRE's after eating them off and on for 20 years=grosser than gross.

Guys, meals are “meals” designed for camp at the end of a long day (not really to have a sit down feast in the middle of the hunting day, yes?).  Take a look at this. https://paleomealstogo.com  I mix up some of these with some of my favorite MH Meals, BP Pantry meals, after a long day stomping the elk woods on my backcountry adventures....well, as long as I’m able to pack my camp in at my age ;).

Those look good. My only comment would be yes they're fuel but they are also morale boosters or if you're eating MRE's, they're morale busters.

I take them for lunch, don't weight squat, heat with 2-3 oz water in the bag, comes with silverware napkins and salt pepper. everything fits in the outter bag when your done to pack out.  sportco finally started carrying a few of them.  I sometimes have the mountain house at camp where my jetboil stays now.  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180118/ca75eea7d4cfac70a1d170d6a164f0e4.jpg)

It's basically canned food without the can, with a drink mix and a few condiments thrown in. The water in the food packets is what adds slightly to the weight, but with the MH meals you will at some point also need extra water to make the MH gruel look like food again. Only weight advantage I could see with MH is if you were counting on an outside water source somewhere along your trek and thus wouldn't have to pack it. You would need to pack means to purify the water to stay safe tho.
