I got bit by the AR build bug, I have a couple in the works now, 1 is a Gas Piston 7.5" side charging pistol and the other is going to be a 16" fighting gun

Working up a load for a suppressed 22-250.  Wayyyy to many coyotes in the Methow.

Working on getting together good yote hunting gear. Just picked up a Rock River predator pursuit 20" ar15,  next is a ecaller and a couple hand calls. Then put some time in the woods down around the oly area for a some dogs this winter, or at least till bear season.

I have been bit by the Backcountry bug. Now I find myself looking for all the light weight yet quality gear. This year I scrounged up enough gear from buddies to go on the high hunt. I would like to go in about 20lbs lighter on the pack this year. Been learning lots and I'm super excited for next year.

I went from having zero Remington 700's to 3 in the course of less than a year. Now I've been hitting the googler trying to come up with some ideas to do something fun with one of them. Currently it's a VTR in .308

I wish I could vote 3 times...

Just bought another CZ 527 Varmint but this time in 17 Rem so I'll be playing with that.

Have a 20-250 build that is going together to shoot the 55gr Bergers but it won't be done till shortly after the first of the year.

I'm picking up my 6.5-284 from Defensive Edge tomorrow that I had Shawn do his +P throat design on so I'll be playing with that soon and seeing what kind of increased fps I can get out of it and still make it shoot 1/2 MOA or better.  A legitimate 3200fps w/140's out of a 26in barrel, without redlining it, would be pretty cool.

I have a Rem 700 SA and LA, both already blueprinted, ready to go into builds but I'm a bit indecisive at the moment and I don't really have anything that is pulling me one way or the other.  With the SA I'm kinda maybe thinking a lighter weight build with a Hardy CF wrapped barrel in 6.5 something or other.

Juat ordered a bunch of parts for my new rifle build.  Goal for this gun is an accurate,  easy to handle trainer that my kids can also handle and shoot.  After much internal struggle I settled on the .243 mainly because I already have good brass, dies, and lots of lead for it already.  Mike at Hells Canyon Armory is slapping it together for me.  Tikka action, one of his amazing carbon barrels, McMillan Gamescout stock.  Somewhat undecided on finished barrel length.  Would be a great rifle for a suppressor especially since the kiddos are gonna be cutting their teeth on it.

Reloading is like therapy, first thing I’m going to do is get a kinda truck gun /brush gun. Right now all I have are long range setups that are a pain to tote around in the blacktail  woods and bear woods. Then I’m going to start buying parts for a new build for backpacking, maybe it will be put together next year maybe not.

I just started cleaning up my reloading bench after 10 or so years of neglect. Going to start loading again, I have missed it. I also am trying out something new for next season.  I had never used a bipod but I just put one on my .243.

Karl - what twist did you go with? It's been bothering me that I don't have a 6mm in the safe right now and I'm debating on a 243 vs 6x47 vs 6CM in a fast twist for my next project.

Current funds have been going towards gathering reloading equipment here and there so I can play with load develpoment for them.

Changing my Remington 700 in 338 Win. Mag. from ADL style to BDL. I've got a laminated wood stock with aluminum bedding block, BDL style trigger guard/floor plate, and other necessary parts to do the conversion. Just gotta find time now to get it done. Probably won't be until after duck season is over.

Got all my parts sent off to https://www.wheeleraccuracy.com/ a few weeks back for the Defiance ultralight action I bought from Alex gonna build a some what light weight 6.5 creed hoping it would weigh under ten pounds scoped. lugging around 15 pound rifles is starting to weigh me down. I took a pretty bad fall coming up a ridge in some snow during the late season low crawling up on an injured foot then having to use the rifle as a crutch the rest of the way back to the truck was not fun. Should be  8 - 10 weeks for it to be done.

Defiance Deviant Ultralight
26" Rock Creek barrel

If it wasn't for the massive amounts of quality components I have for the .243 I would have probably gone 6 CM

Been doing some load development with my 284 Shehane that's been giving me some problems I had to send it to Jim Borden @ https://bordenrifles.com/ turns out he had to make me a new cocking piece to time my Timney 2 stage trigger to the action. then I switched brass from Norma 284 win to Lapua 6.5-284 necked up then turned the necks to give me 4.5 thousands clearance. fire formed 50 pieces then went out to do a ladder test @ 500 yards.

Loaded up the middle of # 4,5 and 6  with 52.2 grains of RL26 and a 180 Berger 10 thou off the lands and shot it out to 600 yards at Tacoma sportsman's club Christmas shoot it did good. now I need to do a seating depth test . I think this group would be much tighter if it was shot on a more stable bench they have to much movement to them.

I'd steer clear of Proof barrels for a while. I've recently watched a couple of their barrels burn out so fast that nobody could explain it. The smiths who cut the barrels all said that they felt soft while chambering them. To be fair though, they shot great for 800 rounds before they just went off the rails.

For new projects, I still trying to figure out something to work on. I'm bored with everything I have but I can't come up with anything good to work on. It happens every couple of years; I get bored and have to come up with a new focus for the next round of guns.

i've been kind of itching for a .25-06, 6.5x55 or .280 of some kind.  getting burned out playing with my .264 mag, with a 24" barrel and 1-9 twist, i can't seem to really push it farther than 2900 fps with a 140gr bullet without going way outside of published loads.  burning 65gr of powder for 150fps faster than some people are getting with a 6.5 creedmoor is sort of depressing.

i've considered rebarreling it(either with a 26-28" .264 barrel, or 7mm, or 300 mag), reboring it to some big thumper like a .358 norma that i'll probably never need, or sell it to make room in the safe for something else.

BGT - what powders have you worked with in your 264WM? I'll admit I almost gave up on mine but finally landed on some magic.

I wanted to shoot the 143 ELD-X but couldn't find wwhat I was looking for with retumbo, H1000, or H50BMG. Could get to 3200 but not without blowing primer pockets. Accuracy and ES suffered as well.

After talking with Scott at Quarter Minute Magnums over in Idaho I switched to the Berger 140 VLD and H4831SC. Magic combo in the 264WM. I'm running a 3100 fps (26" tube) with bughole groups at 200 yards. ES is not qui perfect but under 20. That combo might be worth a try if your looking for options.

i've mostly played with 7828 and retumbo.  would like to try some RL33 but it's completely disappeared around here.  i think it's just my barrel -- too short to be optimal, and book max loads won't give me anywhere near the velocity that they say(i tried some 120gr barnes, and just barely cracked 3000fps with their max for retumbo, which according to their data should give 3280fps from a 24" barrel).

i feel that my barrel might just be shot out -- the rifle is a 1965 M700 with a factory stainless tube.  it's got a very short throat that i think might be part of the problem, my first 7828/140AB loads would hit published velocity, but i soon after learned that they were jamming in the rifling(i love the OAL gauge i bought since then), probably causing pressure to be higher.

I have a .264wm M70 with 24" barrel with 1:9 twist.  I hear you on the depressing velocity part.  What is depressing is when my brother shoots over my chrono with his 22" barrel .270 win with 140 gr VLD's and gets 3100 fps.   :(  Here I am with a magnum, way more powder than his, and 150 fps or more less than his .270 win.

I'm going to bed the rifle after duck season and hope to get some better groups with it, but I'm really questioning even keeping the rifle when I could really just go with a .270 win and get better velocity.

I did a little temp testing of rl 26 and N570 last week.  Between 32-72 degrees there was 10 FPS average difference.  I tried the 147 eldm out of my 6.5 wsm.  Picked .010 off the lands and loaded 60-61.6 in .2 grain increments and shot this group. Going to do a ladder soon to see what shakes out.

Just finished up an Ar10 in 6.5 Creed. I used a Aero M5e1 builders kit, Ballistic Advantage 22iinch bull barell, Magpul PRS gen 2 stock and pistol grip. An Elftman trigger, JSE captured spring and of course an adjustable gas block. I topped it all off with a Leupold vxII 6-18x40 on their mount. Cant wait to take it out break it in and shoot some groups.

I've got a Rem 700 SA that's all blueprinted and ready to roll as well as this nice little McM stock.  I was kinda thinking about doing a 22 Creedmoor since Alpha is making 22 Creed brass, which would make things very easy and even have correct headstamp but then I got to looking at that new 95gr Sierra MK and that got me to thinking the little Creedmoor case just wouldn't have enough horsepower so now I'm considering a 22-284 with a 1-7tw to sling those 95gr MK's.

I'd prefer to use the SA that I have because I've already got a real nice stock for it but if the OAL is to long I have a LA 700 that's ready to roll, too.

I typically have the gunsmith that is doing the build blueprint the action but this time I had Karl Kampfeld w/Kampfeld Custom do the actions while they were there getting the bolts fluted.

New rifle last year, Rem 700 Long Range in 7mm Mag. Finally got a load worked up that the rifle likes.  Now I need to upgrade my scope.  A buddy has me talked into the Sig Whiskey 5.  Saving some $$ since early fall.  Almost there...
Killed my buck with it this year, but definitely not long range... 'bout 50 yards running shot offhand  :chuckle:

Finished my savage. It was a 111-g in 22-250. Now it’s a 223, checkered and stippled stock cut to my LOP, cut a 223 bull barrel to 21 inches and installed a PTG bolt head. CDI bottom metal and MDT 10rnd 223 Mags. Pillar bedded and glass bedded. Heavy gun but clover leafs with black hills 60 vmax.

CZ 527 is getting a new B&C so I’ll be skim bedding it tomorrow. Really want to bring it to my machinist friend and have it recrowned but he keeps saying the crown looks “alright” but it doesn’t look perfect, take my money already. Taking the trigger down to 2.5# too.

Then my real love again, not just switching parts, OLD heritage rough rider in 22lr that has seen some hard use. Gonna strip it, plum brown the metal, possibly do a bit of engraving, make up some grips with walnut burl and checker them. Gonna stone the trigger a bit and try to make it nicer, also gonna fix a nick in the crown. Might order a 22 mag cylinder too.

And my benchmade steep country is in need of a sheath so I’m gonna try my hand at leather crafting.

Up till now I’ve been coyote hunting all my free time, worst season ever. Hopefully a couple bobcats will bring in some money

Just had my long range gun built. 300 win mag. Now messing around with a Tikka T3x in 6.5 creedmoor. Need to get a base, ring and scope for it. Think I’m going to ditch the factory stock for one of stocky stocks carbon fibers for it. Stock only weighs 20 onces. Hoping to get the rifle at 7.5 pounds with scope.
Once I get my 6.8 ar sold I think I am going to put together a 35 whelen. I have always wanted one. Going with a Remington action, Shilens barrel I think, grayboe outlander stock, timney trigger. Should be a fun gun once it’s done.

Just got a scope for my Howa .300 wm, having trouble getting it leveled. I've got a bunch of factory ammo to break in the barrel and use for donor brass. Then I need to figure out a bullet to load with, i wanted Hornady interbond but it's impossible to find since they suspended manufacturing.

Yeah, and I'm about to upgrade to a heavier scope too.  Maybe I should put some lead weights in the stock too... :bash: :bash:

224 Valkyrie

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Great chambering! Great Aero set. I shot the 22x6.8 several years back with a BlackHole weaponry barrel. Wicked chambering. Accurate and easy to load for. It's great to see it's now SAAMI spec'd.

Some great powders to use are. H4895, RL-15 and for some real speed CFE223.

CFE223 is money in the Grendel/6.8 SPC case. You can argue temp sensative. But I load for the environment and the hunt.

Great info thanks. Your 375 raptor build inspired me lol. I stole a couple of your ideas on components. Mostly because they are products I haven't used before.

Aero Precision is making some super clean, quality stuff. They have their machining dialed in.

I could use some leads on left hand, side charger for a 6.5 grendel build.
Could be a full upper or just the big and upper... I'm guessing those are the only 2 things different in a left hand eject setup.

It's going to be quit awhile as it's way to hot to do any shooting here in Arizona and the monsoons are coming. The lower will be one of the ones I already have. Most likely my Rock River which might end up getting either a Hypertouch 24E or Rise Armament RA 240- ERT trigger put in it.

It's really nice. It's not any different than anyone elses.

I also have a Palmetto State Armory AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor Complete upper which is nice too.

If you're on Facebook find 224 Valkyrie and 224 Valkyrie Reloading if you want. PM me your name and I'll add you as a new member if you want.
