Post by: jackelope on May 01, 2007, 10:11:42 AM
did anybody hunt any of the late southeast WA permit whitetail hunts last year? specifically looking into the gmu178 peola unit, but just curious in general. i'd like to hear your stories and see any results if anybody did... :brew:

In the latest Eastmans as well as the F&H news that showed the biggest deer in the state there was a picture of a kid and a 168 typical whitetail that was shot on one of those tags.  I think he was hunting out of Dayton area which is one of the units down there I know.

The same guy that had the mysterious monster bull elk, had a huge whitie that got nailed this fall as well.  Apparantly a bunch of his normal haunt got burned and that opened it enought that he was seen and harvested.  I guess it was a Dandy

I put in for the Blue Mtn. Foothill tags for years, but never drew one.  A couple of my cousins drew those tags and took some dandies in the 140" neighborhood.  The problem in that area is finding land to hunt, although I always assumed the farmers would be more welcoming during the late permit seasons when their relatives, neighbors, long lost "friends", etc., are not around bugging to hunt their property.

That area of WA is my absolute favorite... wheat country, river bottoms, white tails, muleys in the blues, trophy elk, bear, turkey, pheasant/quail, doves...etc Damn I wish I lived closer there!  Anybody seen a flatbed old I think it is a chevy truck that was parked for sale in Dayton 3-4 years ago? lol Just curious!  I believe it was right on the corner of the main street and the road that takes you towards the Wenaha Unit...
