What shell are you guys shooting for ducks these days?
I've been shooting kent fasteel 3'' 1 1/8 oz. 4's. they seem to do the job.
-
2's or 3's.
-
i shoot 3" or 3 1/2" kent fast steel in 2 3 4 for ducks and bb and bbb for geese works fine i like the tungsten stuff but way to spendy have shot some of it liked the results but i think for ducks i will stick to fast steel :twocents:
-
I like to shoot 3", #2 or BB's for ducks. I have been shooting some #4 Blackcloud that has performed very well.
-
2 3/4" 1 oz of hevi-shot 7 1/2's for over decoys and 2 3/4 1 oz of hevi-shot 4's for geese and jump shooting
-
Winchester X-pert 2 ¾” #4 and #2 for ducks. Cheap and they pack a punch, 1550fps.
-
Kent fasteel 3" 4's and 2's.
-
3in Black Clound #2's. 1 1/4 going 1500 fps. Tried it for the first time this year and dont plan on stopping.
-
switched to black cloud last year and either I just shot great last year or it knocks them down better but I am stickin with it
-
#2s for ducks and double b's for geese
-
I got a box of 3" winchester X-pert in 2s and have not had a problem yet and they are cheap only 10 bucks a box at wal-mart. I might go back and buy some more
-
The last few days I have been shooting the Blackcloud, 3", #4's. It has been performing very well. Every bird has been stone dead. I think my gun is liking the load.
-
Kent Fasteel for me, 3in #1, #2. I used to shoot 3.5inch, found that all I was doing was killing my shoulder and paying too much money. 3inch #1's killed the snows and ducks just as dead as the 3.5inch shells, but without all the pain.
-
I just buy the cheapest and throw the shells at the ducks since I can't hit chit with the shotgun!
-
kent fasteel 3" 1 1/8 oz 2's and 3's
or in the winchester x-pert high velocity both are awesome! the thing about them is they are 1550 fps rather than an 1 1/4 oz load which is normally 1440-1460 fps...
-
winchester xpert high velocity for me too, they are cheap and get the job done pretty good

exactly! they are about $2-$3 less than the kents! and they are the exact same! both are awesome! its always nice to save some money when you get 10+ boxes a year
-
between this year and last i havent shot 4 boxes.... looks like i need to go hunting more!

H20 - I've been curious to try the 4's but i do A LOT of pass shooting. I imagine you're wrecking on committed ducks. Are you using the same load this year? Would you still use 4's on 30-40 yd pass shots? Thanks

I just picked up a box of 3 1/2" hevi-metal #3 I believe, and some hevi-shot 3" 2 shot. or something. I'm trying a few new things. I REALLY want to see what these hevi shots do to a bird. i'm going to pull them out in 2 weeks when I go snow goosin.

black cloud 3" #3 or remington hypersonic steel #4 1700 fps :IBCOOL:
-
I’ve been using low velocity (1300fps) Winchester #4s, 3” 1 1/4oz – for both release site pheasants and ducks so far this year and they have been working great. In fact they were ripping the pheasants up so much I had to go to a more open choke. I’m shooting them out of a skeet over IC for pheasants and an IC for ducks. Great patterns and so far zero cripples.

:yeah:
I noticed a big difference in shells 1500+ fps. With the exception of the new remy shells. A buddy of mine picked up a box of the remington 3" 2 1700 fps shells, tried them on the opener. had to shoot 3 times to kill a wood duck. :dunno:
Put my kent 3" 2's back in and shot 3 mallards, a teal, and a second woody in single shots, no cripples. :IBCOOL:

I usually get what ever is cheap for ducks. If I mean business, I buy 1 3/8 oz 3'' or 3 1/2'' loads. I like 1's or bb's. That way I am coverd for ducks or geese. I am a Federal ammo guy, they have been my favorite steel load for a long time. If no Federal's, I look for Remington.

I shot the new Remington High Velocity Steel last weekend. I was IMPRESSED. 1700fps #2. It put the smack down. Its about $16 per box, not cheap, not expensive. I had two triples Sat. I haven't had a triple since I was probably 24 years old. Long shots folded them too. I also didn't change my choke from a skeet choke for shooting ducks at hunt tests too.

Brother used Black Cloud 3" 2s on a widgeon in the snow last year and gut shot it. He was able to track the blood trail for 200yds in the farmers field we were in! They do a ton of damage! :mgun:
-
ok, jordano, u do not shoot winchester xperts! :bash: u bought 2 cases of hevi-metal this year :chuckle:

dude look at the date ha ha that's november last year. amazing how things change. But yes all I shoot now are the Hevi-metal 3" 1 1/4 oz 2's and 3's... I really like the 3's... those things drop birds deader than door nails..
-
Hevi-Metal 3in 2's or 3's do the job on ducks and geese.

Black Cloud!!!!!!
