Has anyone been out to see if there was a good chukar hatch this year?
-
i've been around yakima area a bit, and it looks like there was a pretty good late hatch,... lots of young birds. i mean LOTS!!
-
I have been hearing that they had a great hatch. One guy said where he hunts that its the most he's seen in the last 10 years.
-
My setter and I can't wait! It would be so great if there are birds this year. A friend of mine even saw a nice covey sunning themselves on some rocks off the highway around Wenatchee. First time I've heard of that in a long while.
-
Where we hunt the hatch is almost non existent. Time to find a new area.
-
Hunted opening weekend, hot dry not alot of action.
Will try againg this weekend
-
Heading out tomorrow through Friday. The cooler weather should help my dog from getting overheated.

Took the young dog out for some quail and chukar hunting this weekend. Got to one of our spots Saturday evening and had about 2 hours to hunt. Molly did great, she is still a pup but has matured a lot since last year. Our walk produced one rattlesnake, 11 deer, and a decent covey of chukar. We ended up with 2 birds, one of which was a long retrieve on a wounded bird. See the happy dog in the first picture. We ended the day looking for quail and finding lots. No pictures of this but i shot terribly so there were only a couple to show.
Sunday we drove a ways away to another spot and spent the morning chasing chukar. The weather was great, no snakes, and lots of birds. Molly did awesome again, we never lost a bird, and i'm proud to say we put our first limit of chukar under our belt. See tired dog in second picture. She looks a little depressed because she thinks we are going home. Finished the day chasing quail again. lots of birds, some good shooting, some not so good. ended up with 6 quail as well.
Looks like a pretty good late hatch. all but one of the chukar were young birds, and the quail we were chasing were mostly young. maybe 2/3 the size of the adults. some even smaller. Promising for things to come late in the season.
We hunted monday but it rained some and the dogs were sore and had tender pads. didn't get into them.
