I think JP read my birthday on the ICU2TV from 4 to at least 8 or 9.  My wife sometimes sounds like Esmeralda when she laughs, which being from upstate NY, means nothing to her.  I always loved the adult humor they mixed in with the kid stuff.  Rest in peace JP.

Another ICON of my youth has passed. RIP Chris Wedes, AKA JP Patches! One of the few men that I loved that was not family! Life was so much simpler back then.

I've been dreading this day since I learned about his illness.

He was a big part of my childhood, the best guest at Cub Scouts. I still live by many of his 10 Rules.

Forever a Patches Pal.

I think much of what is wrong with today is a lack of a J.P. for today's kids.

I just tried to visit his Website and copy the 10 Rules.  It's been frozen, Bandwidth exceeded..

Sad day for sure. I met JP and Gertrude down here in Lacey when I was a wee little lad. Gertude planted a greasy red messy kiss on my cheek that I never forgot! Yuck! :chuckle:

They just don't make cultural icons like these two wonderful guys anymore.

RIP JP! You will definitely be missed! :'(

JP and Stan both did shows for my Cub Scout Pack.  Pack 144. At the time it was the only Pack run by Fathers.  If Dad was sick or could not come you stayed home.  If you were sick Dad was still expected to show up.  We averaged 90+ members and were better looking/behaved than a Boot Camp Graduation.

KIRO had Bob  (Kechekan, Gertrude, Boris s) Newman on this morning speaking of his and JP's experiences together, so I would say that Gertrude is still kickin'.

JP rocked, breakman Bill was cool, and an awesome artist.
But his donkey puppet buddy was an a$$hole! He was cussing us out to stay in line when my Cub Scout troop was  getting ready to go on the show. He had half the troop crying then cussed us out for crying, lol.

I believe there was some attention given to Bob Newman's Cancer several years ago...maybe that's why people think he died :dunno:
