For most areas I'm guessing he would need to draw a tag. Bearpaw on here guides so I'd check out his website. That and look in the back of the regs.

Contact NorsePeak. But as ellensburgpo said you would need to draw a tag. Depending on what tag he is putting in for (or has already drawn) there are alot of different guides that work in specific areas of the state.

Not sure why he would have to draw a tag. Tags are over the counter, but yes, only good for spikes in most areas. From the original question I would assume he wants to go on a guided hunt for spike elk.

I was operating under the assumption that if they were going to pay for a guided hunt it would be for branched antler bulls, not spikes.

Yes, I see that now.

I'd probably look at guided hunts in Idaho. Look up "Bearpaw Outfitters."

They had a surplus this year in Montana for the Deer/Elk nonresident combo license.  Costs around $950.00 and are sold over the counter.  I think you can get the elk only nonresident license also over the counter for around $750.00.  They are all sold out of the deer only licenses.  If you get one of these I am sure there are a lot of guides in Montana with openings for this year due to the bad economy.

If you're going to pay for a guided elk hunt and don't have an any bull tag, GO TO WESTERN WASHINGTON. In most west side units, you can shoot ANY BULL. And a respectable guide on the West Side should be able to put him on a NICE 5x or 6x bull!

Why not do a BC moose hunt. Most likely near the same cost and no tag problem. A real memory that he might not be able to do until much later in life. And the chances of a bull moose are most likely much better than elk here.
