I was using a wounded-rabbit call while sitting on a stump on the down-hill side of a clear-cut. I heard lots of rustling just down-hill of me (really thick stuff) and branches snapping etc. just before a couple of dirt bikes tore onto the scene. This was a clearly marked no vehicle area. Never heard another sound from that spot.  :bash: Hittin' it again tomorrow or the next day.

For the first time ever I let a legal animal walk.  Had him 50 yards out but was just too small :(.  Probably a two year old.  There was lots of big and little poops so I'll be back looking for daddy tommorow.

We put the stock on a 3-4 year old boar this afternoon.  We had him at 333 yards (400+ without angle calculations) and decided to get closer.  Unfortunately by the time we got there, a herd of elk moved into the meadow and pushed the bear out of the meadow into the brush.  We never saw him again.  We did get a great show from a nice 270+ 6x6 though.

I guess I ment 1 1/2 since mama wasn't around.  My first one was a yearling, it weighed about 80lbs.  This bear was the same size.

Here's link to the video of the elk.  It says still processing but should be loaded here in a few minutes.  I'm going to bed now.

Good first day out...Berries were tore up as I walked into the clearcuts. Gave a couple of calls and seemed to piss off the forest. It was my first attempt at calling and I sure didn't feel like I had a strong backdrop. It took less than 5 minutes before I had something crashing in from behind. Never showed up, but it sure got the blood pumping! The thrills of bear hunting! Back at it this weekend!

I'm a little concerned about getting out this weekend. The temps are supposed to be way up. I don't want to knock something down and then have the thing sour on me. I may end up on the water and wait until next week to get out for some evening sits after work.

Went out this morning and found a ton of sign. Was sitting on a stump watching a rocky hillside with elderberries and i heard loud crashing coming from the timber on the other side, blood got pumping and was ready for a bear to walk out when out pops a big lone cow elk  :bash: let her work out of the area then i went for a little hike, calling for a half hour every so often. Walking through a thick part i kicked a bear out and just got a glimpse. Better luck next time!
