I am new to the forum. It is a great site. I got stationed at JBLM in May and have been looking forward to Elk hunting. I am a new archery hunter and look forward to the upcoming season. Been practicing for 10 months. I am looking for info on GMU 560. That is where I'm going for the entire 2 week season. I also hope to find Bear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have done some scouting with not much luck at all but I hear it is a good place to hunt.

Look at the harvest reports on wdfw's website.  Compare it to the other units and I'm sure you won't be too happy.

There are alot of elk in that unit.

I don't know what the norm is for Elk in a unit, but there were 241 Elk harvested in this area last year. May not be the highest harvested area, but to me that's good numbers.....?

There is a ton of elk in that unit.... go high up to the alpine meadows, find the huckleberries and the water holes...  you will find both bear and elk.

We hunt that unit for Modern Rifle....  it is kick ass if you do your homework.

My work schedule takes me up in the hills above Cougar every Monday, yesterday I spent my lunch hour watching a small herd of elk about a half mile away. Also talked to a bear hunter that has been into elk everyday since Friday, or so he claimed! :dunno:
Never hunted 560 but seriously thinking about spending opening weekend of archery deer there and see if I can find any reason not to hunt 550 for elk which is my usual, early elk area.

I hunt thr 560 and have been for awhile. Its a great unit with lots of elk you just need to get off the roads cause its a zoo up there. I spend almost every weekend up there. Go scout around and you wont be dissapointed, PM me if you'd like. We could talk more about it! :tup:
