Missing Person - HUNTWA members please read - UPDATE
« on: November 02, 2012, 09:56:10 AM »
I am hoping that our great community on here might be able to help locate this elderly gentleman.  I do not know much, other than what is on the flyer.  He is a grandfather of a friends, friend.  It looks like his truck should be easy to spot.

Thank you for taking the time to check this out.

Thanks for the bump... if we can keep this towards the top we might have a good chance of finding him.

Mods - any chance that this can be placed at the top of the board for a couple of days?   :dunno:

Thanks guys!

I will be out there as well.  Blue Dodge with custom (archery / elk) headache rack.  Likewise, if you see me, stop me and say hi!

I don't know the area at all, but I am going to see if I can get some more info from the family.  If I do, I will post it.

Update :

The family is coordinating a search party tomorrow.  All interested parties should meet at:  187 Collar Rd (ave?) , Morton, WA.
They are meeting at 7am, but will have maps available for those that show later.

The family believes that he went hunting "around Mt St Helens and/or Randlle area"  However, there was also a possible sighting "off of 90"?  Now I don't know if they meant I-90 or if there is some road/area around Mt St Helens that is known as "90" ??  They also made mention of "25 and 26  and the south portion of Ryan lake, toutle area near the 90 road" ??  I don't know if those are road numbers or hunt units??  It was a little difficult to hear them when we called so I am just passing on the info the best I can.

More tomorrow after I meet up with them and get my area to search.

As I mentioned, I don't know this person, but as hunters I know that we can all imagine what it would feel like if one of our loved ones was lost.  I figure nobody knows the woods better than those of us that love hunting so much we spend our days on a website talking about it all day :chuckle:

Thanks everyone!
Brian

THe 25 rd comes out of Randle to Cougar, and meets the 90 rd.  The 90 goes east to the 23 Rd out of Trout Lake.  Praying this ends well.

I've hunted randle and packwood unit most my life and want to help. From what I've heard so far that he's from Morton and said he was headed to Ryan lake. I looked it up and you turn off at randle and go strait on FR25 then take a right on FR26. I think any info from the family and friends will be a HUGE help for us because I called Skamania search and rescue for info so we could help but they said that they strongly discourage any outside help!!!! :bash: :bash: :bash:WTF!! The news said he has dimensia, I wonder if he could have taken a right on Kosmos Rd or different road thinking he was taking a right on FR25. My other thought is mabey once on FR25 he just rounded the turn onto cispus rd. I don't think it should take 4 days for search and rescue to find a truck that specific, I'm not bashing S&R but mabey he isn't near Ryan Lake. Find the truck, Find the man. I'll be out there in my little blue Mitsubishi Eclipe (can't afford the fuel in my P/U). Same as the rest - stop me and let me know if you see me up there.

Thank you.

I understand that he met with his hunting partner for breakfast in Morton, and wanted to go hunting.  His partner said no due to the rain, so he decided to go try out his new 22.  ???  Not sure if that helps at all, but I will keep posting info as I get it.

The family is trying to get as much help as possible.  When you check in with them and get a map, they will also ask that you check back out upon leaving so that they know what areas to "clear" and also that searchers are back safe.

Wave me down tomorrow and let me know you are a hunt-wa member  :hello:

I'm packed for 2 nights, will be in Morton in the AM. Just a personal thought but if I wanted to try out a new .22 I would be looking for grouse not paper targets so low roads near streams would be my choice. Can't wait to help.

My heart goes out to the family and friends, I'm not sure what else to say. Personally I'm amazed at the response of all fellow hunters willing to help. To come together like this is not helping out, its human instinct. I have no idea who this man is, I just know that he was in an area i was familiar with. I wish I could have done more than pack my bags for the weekend. To the family - I'm very sorry for your loss.

Sad news for the family.  Is it morbid or aweful to think that he ended his life doing what he loved, instead of in some ward.  GOOD FOR HIM!   Prayers for his family.   Thanks Brian for bringing this to our attention.

As mentioned, I dont really know the family, but I hope for them, as I know would be the case for mine - If something ever happens to me and I were to pass while in the woods, my family would know that I died in a place that meant more to me then words could express or most people could ever understand.  It is where I always find my peace and a pray that is the same for him and his family.

I must say that although not surprised, I am touched knowing that I am a small part of a community of caring, selfless, people - and I am very grateful!

Kindest regards!
Brian
