Only 12 days Of chinook?
« on: July 28, 2007, 09:32:00 AM »
It seems that we will only have 12 days this year to retain chinook caught at Buoy 10.  It will be open from Aug. 23-Sept. 3.  Even though that is usually right in the middle of the prime time there can be some great fishing before and after depending on the water temp and amount of rain.  This is supposed to protect the "tule" strain of chinook that enter the rivers below Bonneville.  What sucks is we are going to have to chuck back nice upriver brights to protect an inferior king.  Tule's are smaller football shaped kings  that (IMO) are not as nice as the upriver brights heading for the upper Columbia and the Snake.  But I guess a king is a king.  I see our buoy 10 fishery slipping away more and more every year.  No retention of wild coho and a 12 day chinook fishery is just the beginning.  Next we will no longer be able to keep un-marked chinook and then what would be the point of fishing?
Just had to vent!
Have a nice day! :)
