Bull down
« on: September 14, 2008, 07:43:41 PM »
Well,  Saturday (yesterday) was my first day of elk hunting in WA.  I have seen this bull all year long and found him last night feeding.  Snuck to 51 yards and put an arrow throught his heart.  He ran about 20 yards and tumbled - dead in seconds.  This is my fourth bull in four years and I was very grateful to take him.  Sorry for the pic (blackberry), but I wanted to share with you guys tonight.  Enjoy!

That's a pretty good streak. Nice work.

And here all along I thought elk hunting was tough work.  You come along and make it look easy.  Congrats on the bull and an impressive start to a good streak!  Keep it up.

Thanks for all of the feedback!  Not much to the story.  It was a 30 minute hunt and was VERY easy.  He was feeding alone in the bottom of a drainage and I was able to walk to 57 yards!  I had a whopping 6 yard "sneek".  When I got to 51 yards, I knew I was close enough and it would be a very easy broadside shot.  I drew my bow on my knees, waited for him to put his head down to feed, and stood and took the shot.  The arrow could not have hit him better - a complete pass-through and he never even knew what hit him.  He took a few side-steps and toppled over.  It all happened that fast!  I have taken a few bulls like this and have decided to hang up the bow until I draw a premium elk tag.  I hunted deer on Sunday morning and snuck a 24" mule deer buck - had him at 14 yards broadside but passed on the shot - way too tired to take care of another animal.  Would have been a good 12 hours, though!

They are coming too easy for you jj, great job. I would have had a hard time passing on the 24" muley though, but then again, your season would have ended too soon.
