Please: No Profanity
« on: June 25, 2013, 08:41:05 PM »
I've had to post this in the past and the profanity disappeared, but I see it cropping up again. This is a family site and we have children on here.

PLEASE NO PROFANITY!
If you have posted profanity recently please go back and edit it out. THANKS....

I almost forgot...
Many members have started circumventing the profanity censor like this: "chitts" "F*^#k" "Biotches" and the likes....

That is not acceptable either!

I did see your post, but there are quite a few others as well, just hoping to keep it clean and friendly around here.

I still end up wondering what expletives are acceptable  :dunno: then just get pissy and leave again for fear of offending people with who I am and how I am....and not knowing what I can and cant say.....

can we get an adults only forum where we dont have to talk like we are teaching elementary school or in a sensitivity training :dunno: :dunno: half serious half facetious......but really I do come here to talk to adults around a campfire and that rarely involves a swear jar....

Unfortunately we can't sensor all the words we would like or words like "bass" get censored. Some members also have started circumventing the profanity censor like this: "chitts" "F*^#k" "Biotches" and the likes....

Thus the need to post this again!

We've been around this block before, you know that. There are other forums where you can use profanity, when you come here please leave it behind or don't come here. You are welcome, profanity is not, pretty simple.  Thanks

It's Bearpaws site and if he wants to make it a day at the church then so be it.  Whats really the difference between *&#$# and "censored"? A semi intelligent person knows what is implied by both.

I don't go to church, this has nothing to do with church or religion.

When profanity is seen, we can either delete the entire post or substitute the word *censored*. I thought it was more considerate to leave the post and only delete the profanity. It's still pretty easy to simply explain to young children that the person used a bad word.

I want to keep Hunting-Washington a respectable and family friendly site. If you want to talk profanity please do it at the corner bar, in your home, at your work place, or anywhere else that it does not shed a poor light on this hunting community. It's really not that hard to understand or do.

I'm sure I've done it, apologies.  Your house, your rules, I have no problem with that!

I was kidding. Anyway, I know a great joke about "people who nag", about a farmer who wants a divorce. But I could lose my job for telling it so we'll have to go hunting (way, way out in the woods) if you want to hear it.

I moderate several other forums, pertaining to a completely different hobby, one of which is one of the largest forums on the internet.  While forums do have software to "censor" specific words, people commonly misspell swear words, purposely, as a way around the vulgarity sensor.  This is commonly  known as Masked Vulgarity.  On other forums, as a staff member, I don't have time to edit people's posts because those people don't have the common sense or the respect to avoid swearing...it's really not that difficult to carry on a typed conversation, devoid of swear words.  Instead of editing out swear words, I simply delete their entire post, sending them a polite PM explaining why.  The second instance of Vulgarity or Masked Vulgarity by the same member, results in an "infraction," which is typically a recorded warning, nothing more, as a way for staff members to keep track of issues.  That infraction is also accompanied by a friendly PM, reminding the individual of the rules.  Further violations would typically result in a short "time out."  Adults shouldn't ever reach that stage but, unfortunately there are adults who refuse to act as such.

Bumping this for more than one or two people here.

Can we not be civil? Can we not behave like adults?

My experience with real adults is a lot of profanity... :dunno:

Of course, there were some forms that were not acceptable, even around dad.

Can we have a list of allowed words?

I assume piss is acceptable.
Friggin... (even though everyone knows what you mean)  :mor:
How about a word that sounds like concrete structures that hold up large volumes of water, but used in different ways?
How about that historical word used to describe donkeys that now is used to talk of people you dislike or the body part that fills the back end of your trousers?

Looking for where the line is for when I want to call H20 a dang *censored*.

You know me Stang....I'm a fairly colorful person when it comes to language. I'm simply remind some here that have less courtesy than others to review the requests that Dale has made and leave it at that.

Wow, I didn't think my word would be censored... It was supposed to be a joke using words I thought were benign...

Sorry.  I've apparently reached a language level where even words I thought were appropriate are inappropriate...

What i find ironic is the site mods will refresh the rules about profanity etc and how this is a family site when there are threads that get heated and the filters are working overtime or people are using clever disguised words to swear. But there is a thread with memes that has swear words and inappropriate material in it.. :dunno:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Here's the line you need to be concerned about:

"You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, name calling, belittling, obscene, profanity or intended profanity, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or in violation of any International, State, or United States Federal law."
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

I edited your post. Using the filters to edit your post intentionally is not ok.
Thanks.

Or this seems more cut and dry. We're pretty much all adults here.

:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Time for a bump.

Mods are spending way to much time on this issue.  No profanity. Simple as that.  Don't avoid the censors.  Don't like it, don't post or take it up with the boss.

@Smossy

I cleaned up your viking thread a bit. Please revisit the rules regarding avoiding the filters. Drunk or stoned either way you gotta toe the line my friend.
