So dad and I are preparing for his late permit. We were just discussing what to expect for how big these Muley bucks will be. I did a search but couldn't find any pics.

Can anyone share pics or what to expect? We have already started scouting the area and know that the snow will be a factor on where and how many deer there are.

You won't have any trouble finding targets as long as we get snow before mid-November.  I just came out of GMU 244 (Glacier Peak Wilderness) upper Entiat and all of the bucks are still at the snow level above 6500 feet.  They will come down in November chasing does if not running from snow but snow really helps.
You could hold out for a big one and eat tag soup or take any decent 140+ buck; obviously depending on how much time you have.

A 4 1/2 year old deer usually is the point where they can become shooters. There ears when looking at you are usually 22-23 inches.Big ol bucks will go 24". Usually a buck out 2-3" past his ears will be 26-28" look for deep forks and you got a trophy in the 175-185" range. But remember a older buck barely passed his ears can be 26" do your research and be prepared. Good luck.

I got that all down, we just weren't sure what the quality would be in that area at that time of year.  I'm gathering that it is going to depend on the weather and if the deer have moved on to the wintering areas.

Thanks for the info though

Even if the snow is not all the way down the does come down anyway and of course the bucks follow. You will see bucks low guaranteed

Sounds like everyone says the same thing even the biologist. Down lower is the ticket.

Now about camping that time of year?  I have a call into the ranger to see if we can camp even though the park is closed.
Any other suggestions? Maybe someone close by that would let us park camper and plug in?

Good Luck this year.....I saw a huge buck taken out of there last year with archery gear.  The genetics are there....  I actually think the pic and story was posted on here last year, it was a young hunter with a true monster.

Can't wait to here your story and see the pics...Stick'em deep.  :archery_smiley:

Dalton's last year. Not real big frame but great character

Yup that is the buck.....that pick does not due that buck justice.  that was a stud of a buck with tons of mass and actually was pretty wide.  I was very luck to have seen that buck in person here in town.  Also the body on that buck was an absolute hog.  Congrats to Dalton.

Those are some nice bucks.  not sure what kind of snow we are going to have.  It looks like clear and cold for next 10 days.  Dad went over last weekend and the snow was pretty high still.

Oh boy, it's gonna get cold.  :yike:  No snow, I hope that doesn't mess us up.  The deer will prob be more spread out I assume.  Decided to stay in town at hotel rather than drag camper up and chance freezing up.
