Woohoo bobcat down
« on: January 10, 2014, 09:12:27 PM »
Well today was a first. Headed out with a friend to scout some new ground and look for horns while we were at it.  Didn't find any horns, but came accos fresh bobcat tracks. So we followed them to see where it went, and see if we could find a bedding area. The cat walked around a tree then looked like it jumped into a tree. Look up and sure enough, she is sitting on a limb 20ft up. Break out the 22, and dropped her out of the tree.

Honestly I never expected it to work out the way it did. But looking back it could be a effective way to find cats, just talk with you hunting partner and scare them up a tree to hide, keep your eyes open.

this was the first year i decided to try it this way.  ive only been able to give it one attempt, due to an unusual lack of snow, then work, and now being sick.  the one attempt i did make here in november, during the late whitetail rifle season, to track a cougar, wasnt successful.  but thats one try.  if it was that easy, wed all know it by now.  i tracked a fair to middlin sized coug for a few hours, then lost it as it walked along a logging road over truck tracks.  i was able to see the cat tracks over the truck tracks, but just barely, and fresh snow was coming down obscuring the already faint cat tracks.  after about a quarter mile i couldnt see them at all any more and headed back.  but the fact that i could see them for a while, on top of tire tracks, in a tiny amount of fresh falling snow, means i was close.  was tempted to follow a fresh set of bob tracks day after that, but it was going through THICK stuff, i would have had to literally crawl a couple hundred yards uphill.  when i got back above on the next logging road up, its tracks appeared.  missed it by maybe 15 minutes.  next year.... i WILL track down a cat.

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

That's great! Rug it or mount it?

Hey! I'm not a complete idiot I have parts missing. Though sometimes I wonder.
