:dunno:  You know the difference between a horse saddle and a mule saddle?  The mule saddle comes with a parachute.   :chuckle:

I hope you are going to get checked out by an orthopedic doc.The break you have is pretty serious and could cause you major problems. The thing could rotate and cut off blood supply and might have to be pinned. That would involve surgery but would be better than losing the  use of the arm.I have skied my whole life so know the best ortho doc in this area.Tacoma,Gig Harbor, Dr.Jiganti.Been his patient for broken leg, collarbone, elbo, etc and he's rated nationally as the best.My wife is an OR bsns in St Joe,tacoma and has been on many cases with him.She rates him as the best and very fast.He does dozens of joint replacements in a month and has never had a case of infection,to boot.He won't operate if it isn't needed. My leg didn't require surgery, proven by mri which he has in his office.I was in a splint for 3 months but no surgery.I was in his office for followup visit and there were people from Hawaii in there for treatment,he's that renown! Here's hoping you have a quick recovery, pcal.

A friend of mine was hunting on horseback and got bucked off.  I told him it was a good thing he landed on his head, or he might have gotten hurt!  :chuckle: Maybe that's why he hasn't spoken to me since...  :dunno:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Had a great day of riding and almost done. we decided on one last trail before they finish logging it. We call it "The Trotting Trail", hence we were not walking it. Trotted nicely along, jumping logs and must have just jumped the last log. I pulled my horse back to a trot and for some odd reason he bucked hard (english saddle) and I went off, my shoulder hit first, then I felt dirt in my face. I was last so it took them a few seconds to realize I wasn't with my horse. I could hear them talking about it,"did she get up?" "Can u see her?" "where?" "How?" I tried to get up but I kept hitting a branch with my helmet, the heck with it I'll wait for help, my arm wouldn't work either.  Very dazed, everyone's faces looked different. "Do you want an ambulance?" my sister asked but I said "no way, (maybe not the language I used) I'd rather walk."  It took a while to get me on my feet, I passed out once from the pain. Then as long as we kept moving I didn't feel too faint. Walked a mile to get to the closed gate and waited for the rest to trailer the horses and drive to where I came out. .Drove me and one horse trailer full of horses to the emergency and met my husband there. My sister took the hoses home and my friend stayed There were 8 of us in two trailers and everyone did their part. Good practice for everyone in this kind of situation. I broke the neck of the upper arm, therefore they can't cast it.  Out of work for a while, no desk work on a farm. Not the "last" memory of that trail, but unforgettable none-the-less!

Just before we cut into the trail off the new logging road.

Did you heal up OK.  Are you still alive for that matter I hope?

Sorry it took so long to get back, it's been almost a year! I'd say my arm is almost back to normal. I just can't reach up to my neck from behind like I used to but most people can't anyway.  I was back on a horse 6 weeks after the break, riding with my other arm.  I oddly have less pain now than I did before I broke it.  I never did have surgery and I'm glad I didn't. Back to work full time in 2 1/2 months after I could lighten up on the therapy or do some at work.  I just had to wait on lifting heavy buckets till 6 months after. Just finished with a few rounds of acupuncture which helped on my whole arm.

This is what my arm looked like a day or so after.
