BIG THREE! (Cedar River Taxidermy)
« on: February 27, 2014, 07:34:38 AM »
Here's Dave's big three point we just sent home. Anybody want to take a guess at his score? Hint double eye guard on right antler, one scores 1 6/8", hope that helps. :chuckle:  Thanks for looking, Rick

Awfully dark antlers for an early fall cape.......I'm thinking a redone mount.  None the less, as good of a 3 as you'll see.  If it's from Washington, I'd be surprised.

I'd guess that's a 202" mexico monster way to big to be a Washington buck.

Holy Cow!  That is an amazing deer.  The color and mass on the rack is astounding, and the mount is beautiful.  Good work on the taxidermy, and congratulations to the hunter.

I didn't think it was the same buck, just noticed the fronts were similar.  Major difference in frame size to confuse them.

What a buck!  Since the fronts account for around 65% of the score and spread can't be more than the main beam (guessing 25"), it's not going to go super huge as far as mulies go.  Plus, you only get 3 mass measurements instead of 4.  But wow: just WOW!

75 for inside and main beams
32 for g2's
16 for g3's
24 for mass
6 for eyeguards

I'll guess 153" gross.

I'll guess 153" gross.

You get 4 measurements for mass regardless if it's a three point. Hence the reason your score doesn't seem right.  I'd love to know the mains, because I see 28"ish. And, even being only a 3, I have his mass at or above 40".

I'll guess its 36" wide, with about 45" of mass ( because it does get 4 mass measurements) and it scores over 200 gross.

fronts do but since the main beam comes up towards the height of the back tines and I'm guessing over 25". Maybe 28ish.  Gross 198

Awesome deer for sure, great job on the mount.  That one would easily score an arrow out my quiver any day of the hunt, first day, last day and twice on Sunday.  Thanks so much for sharing that one.  Can't wait to hear more of the story, what state, what weapon, what year and the score.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Forgot to put all my guesses on all measurements:

G1 - 5 6/8
G2- 41 6/8
G3 - 22 4/8
mains - 61 2/8
inside - 28 2/8
mass - 44 6/8

Gross - 204 2/8
nets- 199 1/8

How's this for a wild guess?

Thanks for all the great compliments. This has to be the biggest deer (frame wise) I have ever had the pleasure to mount. It is from Mexico. Mike I did color the antlers, as he had a fair amount of velvet still on it. I colored them to match another deer from down there.
Blind luck I know you had some inside info on this deer, so you can't play in our reindeer games. :chuckle:lol. Pinetar you either have some inside info too or your dang good.  8)lol. Mtnmuley your on the right track but a couple inches bigger in the categories you mentioned.
Here's what I came up with for score.
Main beams R 30 1/8, 30 4/8,
Inside spread 27 6/8,
 G-1, R 1 7/8, L 3 0/8,
G-2, R 20 1/8, L 21 2/8
G-3 R 10 5/8, L 11 1/8
 G-4-----------------------
H-1 R 5 7/8, L 5 6/8
H-2 R 5 0/8, L 5 0/8
H-3 R 5 0/8, L 5 0/8
H-4 R 5 6/8, L 6 1/8
1 Abnormal point 1 6/8
  Gross total inches 201 5/8
  Gross typical 199 7/8
  Net typical     196 2/8
 Final score 194 4/8
I think the greatest spread was around 34", Main beams were 32" on the outside.
Thanks again everyone. Hope we all get to see a buck like this in the woods in our life time.
 Good Hunting, Rick

 Thanks guys.
I think the thing that fools us some on this deer is what seems to be a small head. I have a few people come in commenting that his head looks small, when actually it's on the biggest form (head wise) that I can buy and I had to make it bigger still, to fit the skin. So it's a pretty darn big deer. Had a 22" neck as well, big deer for just coming out of the velvet.
 Thanks again, Rick
