ALW: Pete Lake area
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:26:43 PM »
I've hunted the ALW from the north....but, looking at a map, I'm somewhat intrigued by the southern access at or around Pete lake.
I know that place is a zoo, but has anyone poked around down there? I spoke to a couple of you last year who were looking at Pollalie Ridge...did that pan out?
For Pete's sake...pick up your feet, man!

I've spent quite a bit of time in that area. Pollalie Ridge, Waptus Pass, Pete Lake, Escondido Lake, etc. Pretty hit and miss for deer. They seem to stay in the timber, and can be hard to find. Lots of hikers too.

If you are going to hunt that area and around the PCT, you will see fewer hikers and hunters if you go in via Mineral Creek.  The thick brush at the lower end of that trail keeps the day hikers and weekend warriors out.  It is also several miles shorter to access the PCT as opposed to going in at Pete Lake, but most hikers avoid it because of the terrain.
