recommend you go dark and deep
had modern rifle cow last year, hunted hard for a week never saw a cow
will never apply again for that tag

Hopefully muzzleloader season gives me a little advantage over rifle.

Elk all over the place up there. North slopes, big timber, steep, water source, and up high. Local elk down low in sage/pine country, but most herds run higher elevations until deep snow. Average last year saw 15-20 elk a day.

My group of 3 got ML cow tags for Taneum. I'll be there for the week. I have been in that unit a fair amount but haven't elk hunted it yet. Gonna be a crowded season with all the extra tags this year + its open for antlerless during general archery so there will be crowds for that too!

Must be a lot of cows in there  for as many tags that were given. At least thats what Iam telling myself!

Its an effort by wdfw to reduce overall elk #'s in the Yakima herd. They increased tags in many of the GMU's this year.

I had the tag 2 years ago. Saw few elk and the ones I saw heard me coming long before I saw them. Pray for rain. Tons of people, lots of dirt bike riders. Know they gave out 400 permits. I think the success rate was around 30% not good. But atleast you got a "selected" in the draw. I actually got it also on a 4 choice. But the peaches ridge quality hunt takes priority.

Having lived and hunted in the unit for the last 35 years I will say that its not gonna be as easy as some would have you believe, having access to private property greatly increases your chances of success in the lower elevations, Temperatures in early October combined with greater numbers of hunters due to the sale of multi season tags and increased cow tags will have an effect on there movement, be willing to go the extra mile.
