Sawtooth Wilderness area
« on: August 13, 2014, 01:35:42 PM »
Looking over the map planning my high hunt for this year. I'm thinking about a different area and was hoping someone knows if the Sawtooth Wilderness area is loaded with outfitters.

I'm not looking for any other info than that. I'll be doing my own scouting this month but I don't want to waste my time scouting outfitter areas. It seems no matter how far back I go, and what area I'm in I always run into these guys.  Are they prevalent in this wilderness area just as all the others?  I know I'll probably hear the " oh ya they are all over the place" replies from the guys who don't want anyone else in their normal hunting grounds. But if you really have some good info I'd be interested.  Thanks everyone. :-)

Thanks colville. I just remembered that. Looks like that whole area was taken by the fire anyway

Was in there a few years ago and saw only a few deer and a whole lot of wolf tracks.  I'm sure they cycle through but it the pack is in there, the deer seem to hide or move.  Hopefully this fire burned a few wolves up.

The High Hunt is Sept. 15 - 25.  No outfitters in the Sawtooth during that time of year because they are packing areas that are open.  No High Hunt in the Sawtooth Wilderness.
Not much of the Sawtooth burned.  Most of the Carlton burn was north of the Methow and a little around Alta Lake but not Wilderness.

Ya thanks as previously stated I had forgotten the sawtooth isn't open for the high hunt.

Yes, there is no law that prohibits scouting from the air.

That would not be the place to scout with a gyrocopter :bdid:
