"You voted no on 591?  That didn't add any regulations, just prohibited future regulations"

What I have read, what I have been emailed from others is that is sounds all well and good, BUT if the Feds decide to make more taxing laws, the STATE will have to ignore THEIR Constitution and ENFORCE the stricter laws.

Have you been told otherwise??

"unless a uniform national standard is required" I 591???  Pg 17 of the WA voter pamphlet.

It "prohibits" NOTHING.

We all know what a "standard" the left wants!!!

I haven't mailed my in yet,  Convince me otherwise on 591

We're tied to the federal standard regardless of what that is. All background checks are done federally. You have no choice in that now. This initiative protects us if the WA standard is greater. In addition, the chance that federal law will ever be stiffer than WA state law is almost nill. Federal laws require a majority Senate vote to pass. That means that every state has equal power in the vote, red and blue. In WA, all of our referendums and initiatives are decided by King and Pierce Counties. If the libs don't like a law passed by the state legislature, they just put it on the ballot and Seattle decides for the rest of us.

I-591 protects our rights. You should vote for it.

In addition to the above, 591 specifically prohibits confiscation without due process (ala Katrina style).

Look at the opponent and proponent list and you can get a pretty good idea of where you may want to stand.

Voted too No 594 Yes 591.

See all the sheriffs opposing 594? 24 out of 39! That is great!

591 is good it will re-enforced the due process of seizing your property and guns, ie search and seizure of the 4th amendment and 2nd amendment. Also, look the 2nd amendment is right to bear arms. If 594 passes and 591 doesn't then there is crap storm of legal work ahead. Courts are going to interpret the federal constitution because that is federal floor and also apply WA Constitution which is stronger. Because essentially everyone who has a gun and if 594 initiative takes affect in December is a criminal because you transferred or loan the gun to someone and did not properly transfer thru the FFL. The reason why the sheriffs are against it is because it will cost so much time and money that can be used elsewhere. 591 will eliminate 594.

I don't get it. 591 protects our rights.

He probably didn't read it

So you guys are ok if we have the morons in DC imposing universal background checks but aren't ok with it if the morons in Seattle impose it? 591 does nothing more than kicking the ball into the court of the U.S. Congress to impose the same thing later on.

I too strugled with the language on unless theres a national standard. Which very much could mean that if a national standard is set that were all to undergo backgroundchecks even for private sales then ye were screwed. But I think it would have been far more prudent to have voted yes to 591. At least you got half of it right  :chuckle: :dunno: :twocents: at least 594 will have an extra no vote!

We all know what a "standard" the left wants!!!

Not sure where the confusion is on this.  Don't over-analyze this issue.

I-594 is ANTI-GUN to its core; we all know this.  VOTE NO on I-594 (The ANTI-GUN Initiative)

If I-594 passes and I-591 does not, we are screwed; we lose rights, freedoms, and liberties; law-abiding citizens can easily become felons due to I-594 (The ANTI-GUN Initiative).

I-591 must pass in order to counter I-594 if I-594 passes; that is why I-591 is there.

If I-594 fails and I-591 passes, there is no harm done, no loss of our rights, no loss of freedoms, and no loss of liberties.

If anyone would like to add to this comment, feel free.

If the morons in DC impose universal background checks we would become subject to them regardless of the turn out of these initiatives. 591 would block Washington from impose gun restriction laws. States can only make stricter regulations than the Federal ones, but must always follow Federal regulations.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3
