I support your efforts, but question why you specifically are against grease?? Why? That is a sure fired way to get more bears at a bait!
You are correct bowbuild, grease is killer. But so is molassas, and it is more water soluble, so any spilled, dumped out, poured around the site will dissolve cleaner, and one of the key factors is consideration for the landowners.
No need for someone to wander around their property and come upon a large grease pit where someone had been baiting. Trying to minimize the residual impact on the land, and leave as little as possible to be complained about.
Hope that makes sense.
As I said earlier, we have the support of WDFW, next step it to get the support of the timber companies, since it is them whose property these hunts are conducted on and for.
My next step is to lobby the Washington Forest Protection Association. Sometime in the next month or so, I will be sending key members a copy of the draft proposal and a letter explaining what the intent behind this is and asking for their support.
Then, after I have made the initial contact, I will be back on here with a list of names and addresses at WFPA, and asking for HuntWa folks to send letter and email requests for their support in helping to move this through the legislature. I think without them, we have little, to no chance at moving this forward.
I am also going to ask that it be in the form of a letter or email. I feel phone calls can be easily dismissed and not have the same impact as a stack of letters sitting on a desk or a full inbox!
With 15000 or so HuntWa members, even if just 10% make the effort and invest a stamp, envelope and a few minutes to voice support over a weekend mailing, that is 1500 different voices of support.
Then if we can get WFPA on board, with them and WDFW backing this, we move onto the legislature. Again, written or emailed letters of support.
This is probably our best chance to effect a positive change, but it will only have chance if we voice support and do so in numbers that make it hard to ignore.
So, there is my plan in a nutshell. It is not going to be a fast process, it is going to take a few months time and require effort from a lot of others to assist it along.
Stay tuned and I will let you know when to sharpen your pencils and fire up the computers!!
