Any bears still awake in 448?
« on: November 12, 2014, 10:59:46 AM »
Any bears still awake in 448?  Thinking of going out Saturday for the last day, and I'm just wondering if anyone has seen any or picked up any on cams in the area over the last week or so.  I get the feeling with this cold snap that there might be very few sitting out and awake still.  Is it worth my time for a last-day bear?

Thoughts, opinions and name calling are all welcome forms of contributing to this thread.

Thanks,
Stang

Do black bears really go into hibernation in Western Wa? I read somewhere that, in mild climates, sows will go into hibernation for a short while to have cubs but the boars rarely hybernate. If that is true, what are they eating in those winter months?

They may not truly hibernate in the scientific sense, but they don't show up on cams and they're not really out and about anything close to how they are in the summer.  I'm just wondering if they're in frantic "get the final food in before hibernation" state or if they're in the "screw it, its time to sleep" state.  If anyone has one on cams or has shot one in the last week or so, I'd love to hear about it.

Have not checked my cams but will be doing that as an excuse to go for a walk. Taking the boy and my rifle because you just never know. I'll be up around the flamingo area.

The 448 bears went over into the 460 where the food is more plentiful

I've been in the 448 for the past two weekends looking for a bear and I haven't seen anything telling me that they are active. I'm seeing the same scat I saw during the deer season.

Go look for Droopy...maybe you will stumble on a bear.

Do you not like carrots and/or peanut butter? They go well together. Wanna meat up at Docs and swill a few PBR's? I'll bring the carrots. We can talk about our emoitions and your recent engagement.

I haven't been in 448 but have been looking for bears and have only seen grass or fur in their fresh scat.

When you get a bear this time of year, depending on elevation you wont find much if anything in their stomach.
People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.

Perhaps I'll bring the foxpro out and see if I can't fool one into thinking I'm a dead rabbit.  Maybe we'll score a cat or something as well.  Or a stupid yote.
