Early 2015 Plans?
« on: December 16, 2014, 10:29:40 PM »
Geez Louise, it's only a bit more than 9 months away till the next wapiti season! What are your early plans for the 2015 season (state, bow/rifle/smokepole, hoping for a permit draw, OTC, partner(s), packing in, base camping, Riverside Motel in Long Snout, Washington, solo, dropped, guided, Headin West Hunt Consulting assisted, etc.)? I start planning my next year's adventure during the curent season ;) Whaddya you cats plan on doing (well, besides on knocking down a big old stinky elk) for the 2015 season? RJ

I can't even really begin to come up with a plan yet, not knowing what the seasons are going to be, or the GMU's that will be open. Supposedly there will be 24 new GMU's open for early muzzleloader. That has my interest piqued. But then again, so does the rumor of the September 12-23 early archery elk season. I'm interested in that as well. Hmm... maybe I need to draw the multi-season elk tag, then I could take advantage of all the seasons, and I have decent odds of drawing with my 4 points. However, with a Wyoming trip in the works again, not sure I want to spend the extra $180 on the MS tag.

I actually have even considered NOT buying an elk tag this year at all!   :yike:  Maybe not a bear or cougar tag!   :yike:  I'm beginning to think the way some others on here have been thinking for some time now: would it be better to spend my time and money in other states? With hoof rot, access passes needed now for most timber land, and spike only elk seasons in eastern Washington, it's hard to stay excited about elk hunting in Washington.

It's gonna be a real tough decision in 2015, there's no doubt about it.

Out of state back country for early archery elk....

With timber lands going to pay and play and the rest being condensed on to public land, I'm spending my money out of state.

Archery for me. Same basic area where I tagged a 4x4 on opening day this year. I want to expand and scout out some more areas I ran across last year too; that were looking really nice. Scouting really kicked my butt this past season, so expanding my area has led me to start getting in shape now. I should have another friend from PA coming out again this year, so in a way it's more important to me for them to get and elk than it is for me; besides, I get the meat if they get one. I plan on making a video of my training and scouting trips this year too.

Trying to line up a back country Oregon archery hunt. Did it two years ago and it was awesome. Now that we know the area better, pretty sure that between my old man and I, we could connect on at least one bull.

I need the new regs for 2015 to make an answer to this one.  It should offer more opportunity than previous years.  when will they post the new seasons or changes to the regs?  did they make expendables legal or have they even mentioned it any further?

We may give up on WA elk. Has anyone rifle hunted the Sand Point , ID area out-of-state? Is it fairly easy to get tags and are there good elk there?
