Zink atm green machine
« on: December 22, 2014, 03:32:47 PM »
Anybody have one of these calls? Mine has been acting up lately and noticed the reeds seem to be bent up? Is this the problem guys if so how do I fix it? Also I rinced the call out with water to get all the sand off so that's not the problem thanks

I would pull the cork / plastic plug and straighten them out.  Mark them first with a sharpie so you know how far back they are and orientation in case your not familiar with tuning the call.  They are flipped up to high.
If needed you can straighten and flip the bottom and straighten and flip the top if they don't have a divette on the reed.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I don't have one of those calls but that's definitely the problem. I've been making calls as a hobby for a couple years and those reeds should lay almost flat along the tone board. I would do as h2ofowlr suggests in trying to straighten them out but I wouldn't flip them. Reeds have one way they naturally bend and you want that bend to be up. If you can't get them straightened then I'm sure Zync sells replacement reeds. Also depending on the design, the reeds will go all the way back to the base of the cork channel so tuning new reeds might not be too difficult.

I gotta think that someone shoved something into the call to bend the reeds.

I would still order a new set of reeds from Zink. It looks like your reeds could have small creases in them which could affect the overall quality of the sound. Nothing like tweaked reeds to ruin a $100.00 call.
