Pelts??
« on: January 20, 2015, 03:33:55 PM »
Do you guys do anything with the pelts from the yotes you shoot?  I'm thinking of doing more coyote hunting mainly for predator control but if there was a purchaser for pelts or if people wanted them I'd look into skinning out the ones I get.

Here are my pelts so far this season.  I ship them to NAFA (North American Fur Auction).  I was happy with my return last year.  You can look them up online, and see just what kind of prices they paid last season.  They have an auction coming up next week, and that will set some prices for this season.

Not skinned for taxidermy.  Just for fur the trade...did not skin the feet, or turn the lips.

Yeah, I am willing to show you, but I am about three hour's drive from you.

There are some excellent videos online that show how to do it,  I can't remember exactly where, but I saw them a while back.

Thanks guys, for the compliments.

I'm not sure about prime dates here, I've only been here two seasons, but I waited until November just to be sure.

Nice Job Wolftrapper!! I'm glad to see someone else putting up coyotes and not letting them rot in the field.

Tonymiller7 - look for a video called "Hunting and Skinning for Profit" by Blaine Eddy. I've put up coyote skins this way for years and have always gotten top dollar from the auctions. He uses a washing machine to clean the coyotes skins but I've just used a 5 gallon bucket and water and it seems to work just fine. With the current fur prices you'll at least make back some gas money! Good Luck! FYI Fur buyers only buy prime furs which usually means coyotes shot from late November to early February. The rest of the year they are worthless to sell.
